Message from Principal Burke

Good afternoon, Eagles,

It has been another busy week here at Edison, and I want to take a moment to share a few highlights from around the school.

First, I want to recognize our boys basketball team for making it to the first round of the state tournament. While the season ended sooner than we hoped, this group had a tremendous year and represented Edison with pride. I am incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication they showed all season long. Congratulations to our players and coaches on a great run. I am confident we will come back even stronger next year.

On Wednesday evening, Mr. Butler and our choir students put on a wonderful pre-assessment concert. It was a great opportunity for students to showcase the work they have been preparing as they head into their assessment season. Thank you to Mr. Butler for all of your hard work in your first year at Edison and for continuing to build and grow our choir program. It is exciting to see the program continue to grow.

It was also great to see so many of our spring sports families at Meet the Coach Night this week. Thank you to everyone who came out to learn more about the upcoming season and support our programs. Our spring teams have already kicked off the season with scrimmages this week, and we are looking forward to the official start of competition soon. I am excited to get out and see our athletes in action and cheer on the Eagles this spring.

I also want to recognize and thank Ashley Welburn, owner of our local McDonald’s, for her partnership and support of our school. Ashley has been a strong supporter of Edison and is helping us reinforce our SOAR positive behavior program. SOAR stands for Safe, Open to All, Always Kind, and Resilient. Partnerships like this help us continue to recognize and encourage the positive choices our students make every day, and we are grateful for the support of our community.

Thank you, as always, for supporting our students and staff. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Fairfax County Health Department Measles Update

Measles is a highly contagious virus that infects 9 out of 10 people who are exposed, if unvaccinated or not immune. It has been in the news lately due to cases in Northern Virginia and among people who have traveled through local airports.

If your spring break or summer plans include traveling abroad or to an area in the United States with high measles activity, the Fairfax County Health Department encourages you to ensure your family is protected. Children 12 months and older should have 1 or 2 doses before traveling. Depending on your specific travel plans, your health care provider may also advise you to vaccinate infants 6 to 11 months old. Read more about these recommendations.

Parent University on March 26, 2026, from 6:00–7:00 PM

parent university

Dear Edison Families,

We are excited to invite you to our upcoming Parent University on March 26, 2026, from 6:00–7:00 PM as we focus on strengthening our school community through belonging and connection. Research shows that when students feel a strong sense of belonging at school, they are more engaged, confident, and successful—and that connection is even more powerful when families feel included and involved as well.

The evening will begin with a brief presentation on the importance of feeling connected to your school community, followed by breakout discussions where parents can share ideas and explore ways we can work together to improve everyone’s sense of belonging at Edison. We hope you will join us in this important conversation and partner with us to make Edison a place where every student and family feels heard, valued, and included.

If you are unable to attend in person, we invite you to join us virtually using this link for the presentation portion of the evening so you can still be part of the conversation.

RSVP Information:
While RSVPs are not required, we would greatly appreciate it if you could let us know whether you plan to attend. This will help us best prepare materials and space for the evening. Please RSVP by March 19, 2026, using this link.

We look forward to seeing you on March 26!
