Principal's Message
Parents,
What a fabulous weekend community event enjoying the Harlem Wizards vs. McLean teachers basketball game. Our families from Haycock, Franklin Sherman and Chesterbrook met up to cheer on our staff across schools. Mrs. Macdonald, Ms. Adamson and I had so much fun joining forces with the staff across schools. I'm truly thankful for my first layup actually going in. Practice time playing basketball with my son paid off! This event raised funds for all our schools and brought our McLean community together. It was so nice to see so many of our kids rooting us on!
This week students enjoyed a Weather assembly, provided with funding from our fabulous Chesterbrook PTA, including arrival of a hands on Weather Bus that each class was able to visit with hands on learning activities. Students learned about why weather events occur including high and low pressure systems, put their finger in a tornado, held a replica of the largest hailstone and snowflake and learned many fun facts about other weather phenomena. Additionally, they role played as a weatherman and give their own forecast on our most beautiful days of the week. Check out a few photos below of our two day assembly.
Important Scheduling Update! We were planning for a possible earlier end to the school year due to a possible election day that would have impacted school on June 16th. This is no longer on the table, therefore, the last day of the school year will remain June 17th. This means our parties and promotion are going to be reset to our original plan. Sixth grade promotion will be held MONDAY, June 15th at 5PM.
Wishing everyone a great end of the week!
Sincerely,
Stacy Kirkpatrick, Principal Lara Macdonald, Assistant Principal
Upcoming Spirit Week
Tuesday, March 17, 2025 (Spread the LUCK) Green out (wear green) wear St. Patty’s Day gear and students will enjoy
Wednesday, March 18 - Wednesday – Rainbow Day
Each grade level wears a different color of the rainbow.
Kinder - Red; 1st - Orange, 2nd - Yellow, 3rd - Green, 4th - Blue, 5th - Purple, 6th - Black
Thursday, March 19 - Wear Odd Socks to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day (3/21) Why: people are embracing the concept of differences, celebrating that it's okay to stand out and be unique.
In 2013, the theme of Wearing Odd Socks was initiated to raise awareness. The date being the 21st day of the 3rd month was chosen to represent the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.
- Chromosomes are shaped “like socks” and people with Down syndrome have an extra chromosome.
- People all over the world wear colorful, attractive, crazy socks on WDSD to get noticed.
- From the USA to Australia, the unique talents and abilities of people with Down syndrome are celebrated.
- Students and Staff are encouraged to wear brightly colored socks, mismatched socks, long socks, printed socks, one sock. Maybe even three socks, one for each chromosome
