Spotlight on Student Learning - March 26
We are excited to invite our families to Together We Grow: A Spotlight on Student Learning on March 26 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30, so you can grab dinner from the food trucks and shop at the book fair. The event will begin at 6:00.
This special evening will highlight how our students are developing as collaborators and resilient learners. Throughout the event, see student work samples and hear from students about how they have grown this school year.
The Book Fair is returning to GBE!

We are excited to be partnering with Scholastic for our Spring Book Fair from March 23-27. Students will visit the Book Fair with their classes on March 23 and 24. There will be special family hours from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25 following the early dismissal, and 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, during Spotlight on Learning.
Prefer a cashless Book Fair? Set up a Scholastic eWallet for your student here: https://bit.ly/GBESpring26eWallet. At the conclusion of the Book Fair, any unspent funds will become a Scholastic eGift balance.
Interested in volunteering with the Book Fair? Email Mr. Lotz at gblotz@fcps.edu or sign up at https://bit.ly/GBESpring26BookFair. We can't do it without you!
National School Social Work Week
March 2-8 is National School Social Work Week. Social workers in FCPS help to prevent social, emotional, and behavioral factors from affecting a student's ability to perform at their best. Their primary goal is to remove barriers that prevent a student from fulfilling their academic potential. Social workers are assigned to every school and center in the school system. Most social workers serve one to two sites. Learn more about the role of social workers in FCPS.
We want to thank our very own school social worker, Robyn Rickerby.
Ms. Rickerby is a vital part of our school community, working tirelessly to ensure every student feels supported and heard. Thank you for your empathy, your expertise, and for always being a champion for our students' success

💡Spotlight on Get2Green with Ms. Green

This year, Greenbriar East has launched a new school-wide recycling program with a focus on reducing paper and cardboard waste. Each classroom has been provided with a recycling bin for daily use, and additional collection bins have been placed in the STEAM and Art rooms.
Our 3rd Grade Green Team plays an important role in the program by collecting recycling from classrooms and consolidating materials into larger recycling containers throughout the building. Custodial staff then transfer the collected materials to a designated recycling dumpster.
In addition, we are implementing the TerraCycle program, which allows us to recycle markers, pens, crayons, and other office supplies. The initiative has been highly successful thus far, and we are proud of the positive impact our school community is making.
Community Conversations: Share Your Thoughts With Dr. Reid
As a listening leader, connecting with community members across our school division is critical to Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid. Dr. Reid’s Community Conversations are opportunities for you to share your thoughts and ask questions. Events will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) on:
-
Tuesday, March 17, from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m., at Glen Forest Elementary School.
-
Monday, March 23, at Ravensworth Elementary School.
-
Monday, April 13, at Belle View Elementary School.
-
Monday, April 20, Westgate Elementary School.
-
Wednesday, April 22, at Crestwood Elementary School.
Child care and interpretation services will be provided. Events are open to all. Visit the superintendent’s engagement page for the most up-to-date information.
Pre-K and Early Head Start Programs

FCPS Pre-K and Early Head Start programs provide a high-quality early learning experience for qualifying children with economic and educational risk factors, ages 6 weeks to 4 years, living in Fairfax County.
- Pre-K prioritizes 4-year-old applicants but also accepts applications for children who will be 3 years old by September 30 of the same year.
- Early Head Start is located at three elementary schools — Clearview, Crestwood, and Dogwood — and accepts applications from pregnancy to 2 years old.
Families are encouraged to apply as soon as possible; space is limited and provided based on need, not on a first-come, first-served basis.
Applications are accepted online, by email, by mail, or in person at the program office at 7423 Camp Alger Avenue, Falls Church, Virginia 22042.
If you have a question about the application process or status, please call 703-208-7900 (English) or 703-208-7901 (Spanish).
