Fairfax Villa Families celebrate what makes them unique at our Heritage Night.

Small School, BIG Heart! 💓

Dear Fairfax Villa Community,

As we head into a new week together, we are especially excited to celebrate Read Across America Week! This is always a joyful time in our building as we come together to celebrate the power of reading and the incredible places books can take us. Throughout the week, students will participate in a variety of activities designed to spark excitement around literacy and nurture a love of reading in every classroom.

We will also be hosting a Spirit Week with themed outfits each day to add to the fun and schoolwide celebration. See the schedule below so your child can join in! In addition, each grade level will participate in a special literacy activity in the library during their regularly scheduled library time. Our Reading BINGO cards will be coming home on Wednesday—this is a wonderful way to encourage reading at home in creative and engaging ways. We can’t wait to see our students fill their boards with great books!

We are also thrilled to officially launch our Family Literacy Bags. These bags are designed to support meaningful reading experiences at home and provide families with engaging resources to build skills and, most importantly, foster a love of reading together. We hope they become a special part of your family’s routine. Sign up for one by completing this form.

Finally, I want to take a moment to sincerely thank you for your continued involvement in your child’s education. Your partnership, encouragement at home, and engagement in school activities make a tremendous difference. When schools and families work together, our students thrive—and we are so grateful to be in this work with you.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead filled with great books and cozy reading moments!

Warmly,

Ms. Textoris & Mrs. Burke

🔖NEW! Family Literacy Activity Bags Coming Soon!

WHAT: Thanks to a grant from Educate Fairfax, we are able to begin a program for all of our families to check out Family Literacy Activity Bags from the Villa Library! The bags are designed for students of ALL AGES (including the adults) so that the entire family can enjoy reading together. For example, we have a bag with Pete the Cat and a plush Pete the Cat.  We also have books across content areas like math, science, architecture, art, etc.  Each bag will have directions, a reading and a writing activity along with fun interactive activities.

WHY:Reading at-home with your children is important to their reading and writing development. Children hear fluent reading, can discuss their understanding, and learn new vocabulary from reading a book with an adult.

HOW: Here is the link to the Check-out form and the required Permission form (you can complete them electronically).

WHEN:Our first bags will go into circulation during Read Across America Week on Thursday, March 5th!
