SVES

Whether your child participated in Show What You Know or you stopped by to visit, I hope you had a chance to experience the incredible projects our students created. This is always a highlight for me, seeing their creativity, passion, and pride on full display is exciting!

I learned about everything from computer programming and engineering to bunnies, sewing, the history of glasses, Pokémon, and so much more.

Thank you to Jennifer and Micah for leading this special event, and to all of our volunteers who helped make it possible.

We’re also looking forward to our Family Partnership Series on Anxiety this Wednesday. See below for details. We hope you can join us!

Our final Principal’s Coffee of the year will be held on April 15 at 9:30 a.m. and combined with the PTA meeting. The PTA meeting will begin first, followed by the Principal’s Coffee.

Principal’s Coffees are a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the great work happening at SVES. Each session is typically centered around a specific topic, with time reserved at the end for general Q&A.

Is there something you’d like to learn more about at Sunrise Valley? Do you have a topic that would benefit our community? Is there a specific staff member you’d like to hear from?

We’d love your input! Please submit your ideas using this form.

Spring Pictures: Thursday, March 12

Victor O’Neill Studios will be at Sunrise Valley Elementary School to take both individual and class photos.  Pictures will be available for families to purchase online about 3 weeks later.

We’re looking for a few more volunteers to help out with picture day.  Contact Melissa Simon in the school office at mdsimon2@fcps.edu to sign up.

Black History Month

As we close out Black History month, we are reminded that celebrating the accomplishments and contributions of African Americans is something we all should be proud of. Our students shined, our voices were lifted, and together we honored a legacy that continues to shape our present and our future. Please take a moment to enjoy the Black Excellence video. It is a powerful reminder of the brilliance, resilience, and impact we see across Fairfax County Public Schools each and every day.

Student Fasting Meal Kits

From February 18 to March 19, 2026, a Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) waiver allows students fasting during the school day to request take-home meal kits. These kits include a complete school breakfast and lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.

Important Meal Kit Information:

  • Kits are charged based on a student’s meal status (Free, Reduced, or Paid).
  • Students may claim one breakfast and one lunch kit per day.
  • Students who eat a meal at school during the day are not eligible for a take-home kit on the same day.
  • Kits are distributed at the end of the school day. Students must pick up their own kits; adults are not permitted to collect them.

Parents or guardians must submit a weekly request form via the FCPS FNS website by the deadlines:

  • March 2, 2026 for the week of March 9, 2026
  • March 9, 2026 for the week of March 16, 2026

Forms must be submitted on time to receive meal kits for the following week.
