🧸🧸Kindergarten Registration Open House🧸🧸

Our Kindergarten Open House is being held on Friday, April 10 at 8:45 a.m. to give parents of students entering school in August an opportunity to learn more about kindergarten at our school.

We recognize that parents are their children’s first teachers. Resources on the School Readiness and Transition to Kindergarten webpage provide parents with ways to support their children to help ensure a smooth transition to kindergarten.

There’s also an easy-to-follow five-step process outlined for registering your child for kindergarten. Register your child today!  Contact our registrar, Lisa Raisbeck, at lmraisbeck@fcps.edu or 703-227-5403 with any questions.

After the appointment at the school (the student and one caregiver must be present), the student will be ready for orientation or any other introductory events each school may host. Read more about the registration process

 Pre-K and Early Head Start

FCPS Pre-K and Early Head Start programs provide a high-quality early learning experience for qualifying children with economic and educational risk factors, ages 6 weeks to 4 years, living in Fairfax County.

  • Pre-K prioritizes 4-year-old applicants but also accepts applications for children who will be 3 years old by September 30 of the same year.
  • Early Head Start is located at three elementary schools — Clearview, Crestwood, and Dogwood — and accepts applications from pregnancy to 2 years old.

Families are encouraged to apply as soon as possible; space is limited and provided based on need, not on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applications are accepted online, by email, by mail, or in person at the program office at 7423 Camp Alger Avenue, Falls Church, Virginia 22042.

If you have a question about the application process or status, please call 703-208-7900 (English) or 703-208-7901 (Spanish).

 School Breakfast Week

Multiple studies show that school breakfasts are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school breakfast consume more fruit and fiber than their peers.

This National School Breakfast Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services reminds families that they are dedicated to providing flavorful, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. New menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.

Would you like to know what’s for breakfast? Nutrition Services has printable menus available.

 FCPS Cares Nominations

Want a quick way to recognize an employee or team? Share an FCPS CARES! Families, colleagues, and students are all invited to submit. The FCPS CARES is automatically sent to the recipient(s) and their supervisor, and is posted on fcps.edu.

Additionally, each month one school in our region wins a staff celebration from HR. Encourage your community to show our staff that their hard work is appreciated!

 2025-26 Early Release Wednesdays

⏰ Limited Early Release Days for Elementary Schools (K-6 only)

Early Release Wednesdays apply only to students in grades K-6.  Preschool students still attend school for their regular hours.

While we anticipate that most students will be dismissed at 12:05 p.m. on limited early release Wednesdays, we recognize that some families may require childcare. These students will be supervised by school-based staff. No new instruction will take place, as after-school care is strictly supervision.

Remaining 3-hour early release days for our school will include:

  • March 25
  • April 29
  • May 20

spring forward graphic

Sunday, March 8, at 2 a.m., daylight saving time begins.

Don’t forget to move your clocks ahead one hour! As a result of the time change, many students will be walking to school or to bus stops in the dark. Help your child stay safe by having them wear reflective clothing and bright or light colors, or add reflective items to their backpacks or clothes. Also, encourage your child to be especially alert for cars that are turning or backing up and not to run into the street or cross between parked cars..
