Principals Message

It's been another busy week in the Wolf Pack!

This edition of the Wolf Pack Weekly is full of great information. Be sure to check it all out!

Olympic Rings Behavior Challenge

This week marks the successful conclusion of our Olympic Rings Behavior Program! This initiative focused on encouraging and celebrating acts of kindness, responsibility, and respect throughout the school. We are incredibly proud of all our students for striving to fill our Olympic rings.

To celebrate their positive behavior, all students will participate in a special Game Day on Friday! Get ready for fun and games as a reward for being outstanding members of the Oak Hill community.

Our POG Patrol & Pack Buddies explored the Portrait of an Olympian this week...thinking about all the skills they need to be an Olympic Athlete!

  1. We watched an interview with Ilia Malinin (a former Fairfax County Public Schools student) about his recent Olympic skate that didn't go as he planned.  Video
  2. Then we looked at all the  POG Skills we are learning about and shared out ones we thought he had to use or have to do his sport.
  3. We even explored other winter Olympic sports and thought about if there are other sports that have needs for different skills.  For example, we all agreed Curling required athletes to speak so others could understand and be able to listen to others (Communicator).

🐝 Congratulations to all of our Wolf Pack Spellers! 🐝

Spelling bee winners

Pictured are our BEE champion, 1st Runner up and 2nd Runner up

All of the students worked hard and did a wonderful job.

Bee Champion, Farhan Sharif Sulbigar (6th grade)

1st Runner Up, Aria Morgen (6th grade)

2nd Runner Up, Samuel Chang (4th grade)

Junior Bee Winner, Nikisha Shandilya (2nd grade)

Farhan will be registered in the Fairfax County Regional Bee, and Aria will be the backup. Best of luck!

Thank you again to our judges and pronouncer, Kelly Durso, Katherine Andersen, Melissa Dolenc, and Eliza Morss (from FCPS)!  And thank you, parents, for your support.

Kids Heart Challenge

Heart Challenge Ambassador

Our Heart Challenge Ambassador, Lia R, with Ms. Croy and Mr. Germain

We are proud to share that our Kids Heart Challenge, which ran from February 6th–27th, was a tremendous success!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our students, families, and friends, we raised an amazing $7,154.09 to support the American Heart Association. We also had 123 students register, surpassing our goal of 100 participants—what an outstanding achievement!

A special congratulations goes out to the 24 students who completed Finn’s Mission, learning lifesaving heart health and CPR skills along the way. Your commitment to becoming heart heroes makes us so proud!

Of course, no Kids Heart Challenge would be complete without a little fun! Mrs. Durso and Mrs. Sobeski were pied by Mr. Germain and Ms. Croy as part of our celebration—thank you all for being such great sports!

Principals with pie in their faces

Mrs. Durso and Mrs. Sobeski were "pied".

We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our Oak Hill Ambassador, Lia R. Your leadership and enthusiasm helped make this event such a success.

Note: Thank you gifts have been ordered and will be distributed as soon as they arrive.

PTA Meeting

The next PTA meeting will be at 6 pm on March 12th.  Christina Moynihan of  Mid-Atlantic Psychotherapy will be presenting "Play, not Pressure.  Your Post-Pandemic Guide to Stronger Healthier Kids".

Most children, including those born during COVID-19, are developing typically. However, children in highly stressed families showed more emotional, social, and language vulnerabilities. Pandemic disruptions particularly affected social-emotional skills and early academics in elementary school aged children. Now, unstructured, child-led play and time with peers play a key role in supporting mental health, language, and resilience. Additionally, stable routines, supportive adults, and early intervention help children who struggle to catch up and thrive.

If attendees have any questions they would like to pre-submit, please send your question to cmoynihan@midatlantictalktherapy.com with the subject: Oak Hill PTA Meeting Question
