Atoms Winter Weekly Recap
Boys Basketball traveled to West Potomac for the first round of the region tournament Tuesday evening. The Atoms played a back and forth first half with the Wolverines as Nathan Pewett paced the Atoms early to take a half time lead. However, the third quarter was the downfall as the Atoms scored six points with cold shooting and the Wolverines stretched the lead to 18 at point. The Atoms battled in the fourth quarter but couldn't close it as their season came to a close.
Swim and Dive had several swimmers represent in the VHSL State Meet at Jeff Rouse Rec Center in Stafford. James Chilton (100 Free), CC Corbett (500 Free), and Samantha Decareau (50&100 Free) swam well enough to qualify for the finals on Saturday evening and completed their season as state placers. The girls 200 free relay of Samantha Decareau, Melanie Decareau, Delaney Spencer, and CC Corbett completed their season as the 10th place team in the state and in the process, broke the school record with a time of 1:39.05! The Atoms' season comes to a close but it was an impressive year by many and all look to continue the growth that was built in 25-26.
Wrestling had Ana Jenson and Darling Saravia represented the Atoms in the State Championship meet in Richmond on Tuesday and Wednesday. Ana wrestled well but was eliminated in her bracket. Darling was a beast in her bracket as she rolled her way through defeating some very good wrestlers on her way to securing a spot in the state finals! Darling wrestled well in the final but came up short and ended her season as a state runner! She is the first state runner up for the Atoms since pre-covid and returns next year with her eyes set on a state championship!
