Principals" Lunch Bunch
 Dear Woodley Hills Family,
It has been another fantastic week at our school! Our students are working hard and having fun as we reach the middle of the third quarter. We are so proud of the effort they put into their learning every single day.
Now is a great time to check in with your child about their progress. You can ask them what they learned this week, what goal they are working on next, or what made them feel proud. These quick talks help them stay excited about school.
Thank you for being such a wonderful part of our community. We hope you have a restful weekend and look forward to seeing our Beavers back on Monday!

Learn About Kindergarten at Woodley Hills Elementary
Our kindergarten orientation is being held on March 25 to give students entering school in August an opportunity to learn more about kindergarten at our school.
We recognize that parents are their children’s first teachers. Resources on the School Readiness and Transition to Kindergarten webpage provide parents with ways to support their children to help ensure a smooth transition to kindergarten.
There’s also an easy-to-follow five-step process outlined for registering your child for kindergarten. Register your child today! Contact our registrar Sandra Guzman, at 703-799-2001, or by e-mail at sguzman@fcps.edu with any questions or to initiate enrollment.

Social Emotional Spotlight
As shared last week, the Virginia Department of Education defines social emotional learning as:
“The process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.”
SEL is made up of five areas of knowledge and skill: self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, relationship skills and social awareness.
This week the focus is on self-awareness. Self-Management is the ability to experience or express our emotions in a kind, safe, or helpful way. Encourage self-management at home by talking about a goal you set for yourself and how you achieved it. Model self-management through your words e.g. “I’m feeling a little frustrated so I’m going to stop and take a few deep breaths.”

New Visitor Management System
New Visitor Management System
We are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school’s and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.
For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check-in at the front office.
But now there is also an app, which can make check-in’s even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check-in at school.
If you have questions or need assistance with the new system, please contact our front office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe!

Celebrating the Power of School Breakfast
Multiple studies show that school breakfasts are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school breakfast consume more fruit and fiber than their peers.
This National School Breakfast Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services reminds families that they are dedicated to providing flavorful, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. New menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.
Would you like to know what’s for breakfast? Nutrition Services has printable menus available.
