As a Changing Education Through the Arts (CETA) school, arts integration is something that happens every day at Bailey’s!

A Note from Bailey's Administration

Hi Bailey’s Primary Families,

We’ve made it to the month of March! We have an exciting month ahead and so much to look forward to as a school community.

We are excited for our annual PTA Basketball Tournament this Friday, March 6, at Justice High School. We also have our Read-a-Thon happening throughout the month, along with our Story Extravaganza at Bailey’s Primary on March 16 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Be sure to mark your calendars—we are looking forward to celebrating lots of reading with our Tigers this month!

We also want to thank all of the families who joined us for our CETA  Arts in Action Day last Friday. We truly believe that integrating the arts into learning opens new opportunities for students to learn, think, and create in meaningful ways. It was wonderful to share that experience with you.

Let’s make it a great week and a fantastic month ahead!

Important Update for 1st and 2nd Grade Families Regarding Student Devices

Laptop 1

All first and second grade students will have the opportunity to take their school-issued laptops home each afternoon and return them to school each morning. Taking laptops home is optional, but we encourage families to consider this opportunity to support continued learning and help students build responsibility in caring for their devices.

All families are asked to complete the Google form to indicate whether they would like their child to take a laptop home or to opt out at this time. A member of our Technology Team will follow up with you via Talking Points to confirm your selection and share any next steps.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our School-Based Technology Specialist, Nicole Sandrowicz.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership!

A Note from our Music Teachers

March is Music in our Schools Month!

Did you know that March is National Music in our Schools Month?  Join us through the month as we will be exploring the impact music has on all of us.

This is the 41st  anniversary of Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSM)! The theme is “United Through Music,” representing how music has the power to bring individuals together.

MIOSM is a national event that celebrates and raises awareness about the importance of music education for all students—and to remind us all that school is where all students should have access to music. Music educators from across the country use MIOSM as a platform to bring the attention of students, families, local community members, and state and local elected officials to their school’s music program and the benefits that music provides to students of all ages.  So join us this month (and every month) to acknowledge and celebrate music education as an essential part of every student’s educational journey!

Celebrating the Power of School Breakfast

Breakfast

Multiple studies show that school breakfasts are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school breakfast consume more fruit and fiber than their peers.

This National School Breakfast Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) reminds families that they are dedicated to providing flavorful, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. New menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.

Want to know what’s for breakfast? Nutrition Services has printable menus available.

The Read-A-Thon is fun, two-week celebration of reading! Students challenge themselves to read (or be read to) daily while enjoying a friendly competition to see who can read the most minutes.

No monetary donation is required to participate.  There will be prizes for the class with the most minutes read and for the top reader in each grade level, so encourage your child to set a goal and cheer them on along the way!

Be sure to join our virtual story times featuring some of our wonderful staff from both Upper and Primary—these special read-alouds count toward logged minutes, too!

  • Tuesday, March 3rd @ 7pm via Zoom
  • Thursday, March 5th @ 7pm via Zoom
  • Monday, March 9th @ 7pm via Zoom
  • Wednesday, March 11th @ 7pm via Zoom
  • Friday, March 13th @ 7pm via Zoom

And don’t miss the celebration! Join us on March 16th for our Readathon Extravaganza at Primary at 6:30 PM (doors open at 6:00 PM).

Let’s turn pages, log minutes, and make this Read-A-Thon one to remember!

Come Join Your Child for Lunch!

Parents and caregivers are invited to join their child for lunch on any school day that works best for you! We love welcoming families to share this special time and get a glimpse of our school day in action.

To help keep lunch safe and enjoyable for everyone, please keep the following in mind:

  • All visitors must enter through Door 1, show a valid photo ID, and sign in at the main office before going to the cafeteria.
  • Please arrive about 5 minutes before your child’s lunch time to allow for check-in.
  • We encourage you to enjoy the same lunch as your child (packed or school lunch). Adult meals are $5 and may be paid by cash or check.
  • Please do not bring fast food, or candy.
  • The bathrooms outside the cafeteria are for student use only.
  • Please limit visits to one caregiver at a time; no strollers, please.
  • Younger siblings must remain seated with you at the table.
  • After lunch, please return to the main office to sign out before leaving.
  • Teachers on lunch duty are supervising students. If you need to reach your child’s teacher, please send a message through TalkingPoints.
  • Families may not follow classes back to classrooms or to recess.

Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our students safe and our lunch routines running smoothly. We hope you enjoy your visit!

Pre-K and Early Head Start Programs

pre-K

FCPS Pre-K and Early Head Start programs provide a high-quality early learning experience for qualifying children with economic and educational risk factors, ages 6 weeks to 4 years, living in Fairfax County.

  • Pre-K prioritizes 4-year-old applicants but also accepts applications for children who will be 3 years old by September 30 of the same year.
  • Early Head Start is located at three elementary schools — Clearview, Crestwood, and Dogwood — and accepts applications from pregnancy to 2 years old.

Families are encouraged to apply as soon as possible; space is limited and provided based on need, not on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applications are accepted online, by email, by mail, or in person at the program office at 7423 Camp Alger Avenue, Falls Church, Virginia 22042.

If you have a question about the application process or status, please call 703-208-7900 (English) or 703-208-7901 (Spanish).

FCPS Middle School Transition Fair

flyet

You are invited to FCPS' Middle School Transition Fair, an evening for families of elementary and middle school students receiving special education services to learn about planning for the future.

At this event, families can meet Career and Transition Services (CTS) representatives and other support staff, learn about postsecondary education, employment, and community supports, and hear from a student and parent panel sharing real transition experiences.

The fair will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 6:30–8:30 p.m. at Luther Jackson Middle School. Language support will be available.

This is a great opportunity to ask questions, connect with resources, and feel more confident about your child’s next steps. We hope to see you there!

National School Social Work Week

March 2-8 is National School Social Work Week. Social workers in FCPS help to prevent social, emotional, and behavioral factors from affecting a student's ability to perform at their best. Their primary goal is to remove barriers that prevent a student from fulfilling their academic potential. Social workers are assigned to every school and center in the school system. Most social workers serve one to two sites. Learn more about the role of social workers in FCPS
