Dear Churchill Road Families,

The winter weather just keeps on coming.  We hope this last round marks the end. Our staff and students have done a great job getting back into learning routines, despite Mother Nature’s best efforts to the contrary!

As a reminder, parent input for the 26-27 School Year is open now through 4 PM tomorrow, Wednesday, February 25.  See specific information below.

Congratulations to our whole community as we have cut our chronic absenteeism in half since this time last year!  Please continue to use the FCPS calendar when planning days away from school.  There are a number of student holidays to use for trips in the upcoming months.

We have a new security management system in the front office. Download the Raptor Safe app on your phone. In the app, create your profile which includes scanning your driver's license. This will make checking in at the front office much quicker and easier.  Please see additional details below.  This is a system that is being installed across all FCPS schools.

If you have a neighbor with a rising Kindergarten student for the 2026-27 school year, please encourage them to register their child as soon as possible.  Having an accurate number of our rising Kindergarten students impacts our staffing for next school year!  Save the date for our kindergarten orientation scheduled for April 8.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Pierson-Barr and Mr. Kilpatrick

Parent Input for the 2026-2027 School Year

As we begin planning for the upcoming school year, our staff collaborates regarding student placements.  A variety of factors such as student personalities, friendships, and academic abilities are considered as we create our new classes.  Other factors impacting the decision-making process of student class assignments are new student enrollments and teachers moving to a new assignment.

Churchill Road families may assist in this process by sharing insights. Please note the following when providing information. We do not accept requests for specific teachers for the upcoming grade placement.  This includes hints that reference specific teachers.  While all feedback is reviewed and considered, we cannot guarantee placement or non-placement with any other specific students.   We do our best to create a positive learning year for your child.

Please provide your input by submitting this form as it will ensure we have your request.  Please do not email us additional information.  Completion of the form is optional: however, the deadline for any correspondence is tomorrow, Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 4 PM. Thank you for your input.

New Visitor Management System

raptor

We are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school’s and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.

For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check-in at the front office.

But now there is also an app, which can make check-in’s even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check-in at school.

If you have questions or need assistance with the new system, please contact our front office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe!

SOL Dates for Spring 2026

SOLs

The Churchill Road SOL schedule for Spring 2026 has been finalized. Please see the chart above.  It is important that your child attend school on these days. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or appointments that would take your child out of school during this time period. It is also important that your child has had a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast before testing! We thank you, in advance.

If you know anyone who has a rising kindergartener (or 1st-6th student who will attend Churchill Road Elementary), please encourage them to begin registration as soon as possible. benchmark

📚 Halfway Through Exploring Technology and Society in Language Arts 📚

We are halfway through Benchmark Unit 5 in Language Arts! Across grade levels, students have explored why we use technology, how we take responsibility when making advances in technology, and where ideas for inventions come from.

Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:

  • Question: What’s the most interesting fact you learned from this unit so far? Why is it interesting to you?
  • Activity: Ask your child to draw a picture of how they would improve a common piece of technology (cell phone, car, etc.).

At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.
