raptor

Raptor Visitor Management System

We are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school's and FCPS’s ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining visitor processes. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.

For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check in at the front office.

But now there is also an app, which can make check-in even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before arriving at school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check in at school.

If you have questions or need assistance with the new system, please contact our front office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe!

Pre-K and Early Head Start Programs

FCPS Pre-K and Early Head Start programs provide a high-quality early learning experience for qualifying children with economic and educational risk factors, ages 6 weeks to 4 years, living in Fairfax County.

  • Pre-K prioritizes 4-year-old applicants but also accepts applications for children who will be 3 years old by September 30 of the same year.
  • Early Head Start is located at three elementary schools — Clearview, Crestwood, and Dogwood — and accepts applications from pregnancy to 2 years old.

Families are encouraged to apply as soon as possible; space is limited and provided based on need, not on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applications are accepted online, by email, by mail, or in person at the program office at 7423 Camp Alger Avenue, Falls Church, Virginia 22042.

If you have a question about the application process or status, please call 703-208-7900 (English) or 703-208-7901 (Spanish).

Celebrating the Power of School Breakfast

Multiple studies show that school breakfasts are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school breakfast consume more fruit and fiber than their peers.

This National School Breakfast Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services reminds families that they are dedicated to providing flavorful, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. New menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.

Would you like to know what’s for breakfast? Nutrition Services has printable menus available.

Community Clean Up Event

Roll up your sleeves and join us for our Community Clean-Up Event!

On Friday, April 10th (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM), we’re gathering at Daniels Run to get our gardens and school grounds ready for spring. This is a fantastic opportunity for families to connect while giving back to our local environment.

It’s also a day of hands-on learning. You can dive into interactive sessions to master composting, help us plant a new tree, or sharpen your nature skills by learning to identify our city’s native tree species.

Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a first-time volunteer, we’d love to see your family there!

  • Supervision: This is a family event, students must be accompanied by someone 18 or older.
  • Weather: This event is weather-dependent.
  • Updates: A full schedule will be shared as the date approaches.

Middle School Transition Fair

Hello families,

You are invited to FCPS' Middle School Transition Fair, an evening for families of elementary and middle school students receiving special education services to learn about planning for the future.

At this event, families can meet Career and Transition Services (CTS) representatives and other support staff, learn about postsecondary education, employment, and community supports, and hear from a student and parent panel sharing real transition experiences.

The fair will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 6:30–8:30 p.m. at Luther Jackson Middle School. Language support will be available.

This is a great opportunity to ask questions, connect with resources, and feel more confident about your child’s next steps. We hope to see you there!

Ramadan Information

Dear Parents,

As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, we want to ensure that we are providing the necessary support and accommodations for our students who may be observing this special time.

If your child plans to participate in Ramadan this year, please inform us as soon as possible. This will help us better understand their needs and make any necessary arrangements.

For those students who will be fasting, we kindly request that you fill out the DRES Ramadan Participation Form. This form will allow you to provide us with important information regarding your child's health, dietary requirements, and any specific needs they may have during this period.

We understand that Ramadan is a time of great significance for our Muslim families, and we are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Meal Kits for Fasting Students

From February 18 to March 19, students who are fasting during the day can take school meals home. These kits include one breakfast and one lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.

Families must fill out a request form each week for every student who wants a kit. Please note other important details below:

  • Cost: Meals are charged just like a normal school day.
  • Pickup: Students must grab their kits at the end of the school day.
  • Menu: Kits include school meals that are easy to heat at home.

Visit the Food and Nutrition webpage for forms, deadlines, and other information. Please contact the Office of Food and Nutrition Services with any questions at FCPSFNS@fcps.edu or 703-813-4800.
