Third grade students learning how to knit during indoor recess!

Small School, BIG Heart! 💓

Dear Fairfax Villa Community,

It was a great—yet short—week at school! Even with the abbreviated schedule, it has been wonderful to see our students settling back into their routines. Classrooms are buzzing with learning, and there is a renewed sense of focus and energy throughout the building. We are hopeful that (if the snow holds off on Sunday!) we are heading into three full weeks of uninterrupted schedules. That consistency will provide valuable time for teaching, learning, and continuing to build strong classroom communities.

We are also looking forward to welcoming families to Heritage Night tonight from 6:00–8:00 p.m. This is always such a special evening as we celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, and stories that make up our school community. We hope you will join us for an evening of connection, learning, and celebration.

During Heritage Night, families will also have the opportunity to learn more about our new Family Literacy Bags initiative. These take-home bags are designed to help foster a love of reading and learning through engaging books and a fun, hands-on family activity. Each bag is thoughtfully curated to encourage meaningful conversations and joyful learning experiences at home.

Please be sure to see the information below about completing the form to sign up for a literacy bag. Bags will be available beginning March 5th, and completing the form will ensure you are included when they become available.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We are grateful for the strong connection between home and school and look forward to seeing many of you tonight!

Warmly,

Ms. Textoris & Mrs. Burke

🍓Student Fasting Meal Kits

From February 18 to March 19, students who are fasting during the day can take school meals home. These kits include one breakfast and one lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.

Families must fill out a request form each week for every student who wants a kit. The next deadline is Monday, February 23, for the week of March 2nd. Please note other important details below:

  • Cost: Meals are charged just like a normal school day.
  • Pickup: Students must grab their kits at the end of the school day.
  • Menu: Kits include school meals that are easy to heat at home.

Visit the Food and Nutrition webpage for forms, deadlines, and other information. Please contact the Office of Food and Nutrition Services with any questions at FCPSFNS@fcps.edu or 703-813-4800.

🔖NEW! Family Literacy Activity Bags Coming Soon!

WHAT: Thanks to a grant from Educate Fairfax, we are able to begin a program for all of our families to check out Family Literacy Activity Bags from the Villa Library! The bags are designed for students of ALL AGES (including the adults) so that the entire family can enjoy reading together. For example, we have a bag with Pete the Cat and a plush Pete the Cat.  We also have books across content areas like math, science, architecture, art, etc.  Each bag will have directions, a reading and a writing activity along with fun interactive activities.

WHY:Reading at-home with your children is important to their reading and writing development. Children hear fluent reading, can discuss their understanding, and learn new vocabulary from reading a book with an adult.

HOW: Here is the link to the Check-out form and the required Permission form (you can complete them electronically).

WHEN:Our first bags will go into circulation during Read Across America Week on Thursday, March 5th!

✅Our New Visitor Management System

We are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school’s and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.

For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check-in at the front office.

But now there is also an app, which can make check-in’s even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check-in at school.

If you have questions or need assistance with the new system, please contact our front office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe!

This year, we will be holding the 22nd annual Techstravaganza on Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 10 AM to 4 PM at TJHSST.

Admission is free, and we hope that you can make it!. More information can be found on the TJHSST event website.

✏️Attendance “Tip of the Week”

At Fairfax Villa, we have a school improvement goal around improving our attendance rate. We would like to see our absenteeism rate decrease this year from 12% to 9%.

Here is our Attendance “Tip of the Week!”

Make Back-Up Plans: If something comes up unexpectedly, have back-up plans set up in advance to help your child get to school. Friends, families, and neighbors might be more than willing to lend a helping hand!
