What's Happening Mount Eagle

February 20, 2026

A Message from Ms. Kirkland

Dear Mount Eagle Families,

Our Science Night was a big success! It was incredible to see so many students and families engaged in hands-on exploration and discovery. Students had opportunities to dive into physics, design, biology, and robotics, sparking curiosity and creativity across all grade levels. Thank you to our staff and volunteers who helped make this event such a meaningful experience for our community.

We are looking forward to a full week of school next week, continuing the strong learning momentum we’ve built together.

As we look ahead to next month, we are excited to share that our school will host a number of events centered around college and career planning. Our AVID team has been hard at work planning engaging activities for our upcoming All School Meeting, and we will also have college and career themed spirit days designed to inspire students to begin dreaming about their futures. It’s never too early for students to start thinking about the many possibilities ahead of them!

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting both the academic and aspirational growth of our students.

Warmly,
Kate

Kate Kirkland, Principal

New Visitor Management System

We are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school’s and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.

For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check-in at the front office.

But now there is also an app, which can make check-in’s even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check-in at school.

If you have questions or need assistance with the new system, please contact our front office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe!

Winter Family Score Reports for ES Screening/Growth Assessments

Family score reports for elementary winter screening and growth assessments will be centrally distributed to families through SIS ParentVUE (PVUE) Documents. Families in grades PreK-6 will receive up to three (3) reports based on the assessments their student took this winter:

Meal Kits for Fasting Students

From February 18 to March 19, students who are fasting during the day can take school meals home. These kits include one breakfast and one lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.

Families must fill out a request form each week for every student who wants a kit. The first deadline is Wednesday, February 11, for the week of February 16. Please note other important details below:

  • Cost: Meals are charged just like a normal school day.
  • Pickup: Students must grab their kits at the end of the school day.
  • Menu: Kits include school meals that are easy to heat at home.

Visit the Food and Nutrition webpage for forms, deadlines, and other information. Please contact the Office of Food and Nutrition Services with any questions at FCPSFNS@fcps.edu or 703-813-4800.

It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!

Kindergarten helps children learn and practice the social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives.

Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events, including orientation, in the spring. Eligible children can be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps schools prepare and ensure they have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.

If your child will attend our school, please gather necessary documents and complete registration forms as soon as possible.

FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, please visit the FCPS Registration webpage

Our Student Information Assistant, Ms. Sara Merino Paz, is available to answer your questions. Reach her by calling Mount Eagle at 703-721.2100 or emailing srmerinopaz@fcps.edu.

🍎 Make Every Day Count! The Importance of Attendance

Our goal is to maintain a chronic absenteeism rate below 10% by the end of this school year. Our current absentee

As you plan upcoming trips and other family events, please remember the importance of sending your child to school every day. Review the FCPS School Year Calendar and try to plan any time away during breaks from school.

Children who show up for school regularly develop fundamental reading and math skills while building a habit of good attendance that will carry them into college and careers. Research shows that children who were chronically absent (missing 18 days or more) in kindergarten and first grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of third grade.

Learn how families can help form good attendance habits.
