 Hello Mustangs,
We are beyond excited to see our SCMS theatre production come to life this weekend – Seussical Jr.! This evening’s performance is sold out, but some tickets remain for performances on Saturday and Sunday. We hope to see you here as we celebrate our wonderful thespians.
As you know from my earlier communication this week, information continues to swirl among students in different schools related to possible advocacy walkouts. It is very important that students understand how to do these safely and appropriately. In Fairfax County Public Schools, students have the right to express their opinions; however, all demonstrations and walkouts must follow school regulations. Advocacy activities may only occur before or after school, so they do not disrupt learning. Students who wish to organize an activity must submit a written request to the principal at least five school days in advance that includes the purpose, time, and location. Participation in unapproved walkouts or activities during the school day may result in disciplinary action. Our goal is to support the student voice while also ensuring safety and maintaining a positive learning environment for everyone. If you have any questions, please reach out to any administrator in the building.
As always, please reach out to me or anyone on our administration team if you have questions or feedback to share. We love hearing from you, and we love working with your children. THEY are why WE are here.
Jamey Chianetta | Interim Principal | South County Middle School

New Visitor Management System
We are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school’s and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.
For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check-in at the front office.
But now there is also an app, which can make check-in’s even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check-in at school.
If you have questions or need assistance with the new system, please contact our front office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe!
Ramadan
We will begin using the Mediation & Silent Reflection Room (room B101) for Ramadan starting Wednesday (2/18). For the first few weeks of Ramadan (Feb. 18- March 6) students who have been given permission by a parent/guardian should be released from class at 12:25 and students will leave the room at the bell at 12:45. For the remainder of the weeks (March 9-19) students should be released at 1:20 and should be back to class at 1:40. You can find the list of students at the link which will be continuously updated as parents submit permission. Students on the list who are fasting will also be able to go to the library during lunches.

Student Fasting Meal Kits
From February 18 to March 19, 2026, a Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) waiver allows students fasting during the school day to request take-home meal kits. These kits include a complete school breakfast and lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.
Important Meal Kit Information:
- Kits are charged based on a student’s meal status (Free, Reduced, or Paid).
- Students may claim one breakfast and one lunch kit per day.
- Students who eat a meal at school during the day are not eligible for a take-home kit on the same day.
- Kits are distributed at the end of the school day. Students must pick up their own kits; adults are not permitted to collect them.
Parents or guardians must submit a weekly request form via the FCPS FNS website by the deadlines:
- February 23, 2026 for the week of March 2, 2026
- March 2, 2026 for the week of March 9, 2026
- March 9, 2026 for the week of March 16, 2026
Forms must be submitted on time to receive meal kits for the following week.
Tissue Donation
Cold and flu season is here. We are asking each family to send in two boxes of tissues to help our school during this time. We have already used most of the tissues that were brought in at the start of the school year. Thank you for helping keep our school healthy.
Weekly Math SOL Reviews
Students have recently started completing weekly SOL Review assignments for their math classes. Here is some key information:
- Students are permitted to use their notes, slides and information posted in Schoology, Mathspace textbook and practice questions, and other resources used in class. Students may also ask for teacher support in seminar. They may not collaborate with other students.
- Each review will count as half of a formative assignment. These assignments are in Mathspace and students should use retries before submitting their task. They do not have retries on #5 and #10.
Due dates and more detailed information is posted in your student’s Schoology course. Thanks for your support at home!
