Dear Terraset Families,
We hope each of you enjoyed the long weekend and were able to take some time for a little fun, and to rest and recharge. Last week it was incredible to experience 100th day and Valentine’s Day as a Tiger community. Our children and staff definitely felt the love as we celebrated with festive outfits, kind words, and respect for one another!
Tomorrow, 2/18/26, is our next 3-hour early release Wednesday. Last week, we asked that you check your email for the early release dismissal route confirmation for your child/ren. Any changes to that plan should have been made by last Friday by calling the main office at 703-390-5600. Please remember that it is very difficult to navigate dismissal changes on the day of the early release. Our top priority is to get every Tiger home safely at the correct time.
Warmly,
Katie Aldridge, Principal
Dave Ickowski, Assistant Principal
🔒Upcoming Lockdown Drill
Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for all of us. We have a crisis management and emergency preparedness plan for our school that is reviewed and updated regularly. Our plan includes procedures on how to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Students and staff regularly practice these drills every school year. We also practice lockdown drills.
Virginia Law (22.1-137.2) requires schools to notify parents at least 24 hours before a school practices a lockdown drill. However, we are not required to share the exact date and time of the drill. We are required to practice lockdown drills two times a year. FCPS lockdown drills do not include any type of active shooter scenario training, they are instruction and classroom based.
We will conduct a lockdown drill at our school soon. Our pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students are exempt from mandatory participation in lockdown drills during the first 60 days of the school year. They will participate in our second and final drill later this school year.
Additional information on our lockdown drill program to include parent tips and FAQs can be found on the Emergency Planning and Crisis Response web page. After reviewing this content, you should discuss the value of these safety drills with your child.
Keeping our school safe and secure for all students and staff involves the participation of the entire school community, and we thank you for your help to keep our school safe.

📝Learn About Kindergarten at Terraset
Our kindergarten orientation is being held on April 10th at 10:30 a.m. to give parents of students entering school in August an opportunity to learn more about kindergarten at our school.
We recognize that parents are their children’s first teachers. Resources on the School Readiness and Transition to Kindergarten webpage provide parents with ways to support their children to help ensure a smooth transition to kindergarten.
There’s also an easy-to-follow five-step process outlined for registering your child for kindergarten. Register your child today! Contact our registrar, Shannon Johnson with any questions.
📣Cheer Squad Sign-Ups – 6th Grade Basketball Challenge
We are excited to open sign-ups for the Cheer Squad for this year’s 6th Grade Basketball Challenge! This opportunity is open to students in grades 3–6 who are interested in cheering, performing, and showing school spirit during the event.

SR&R Survey
Survey on Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) Now Open for All Families and Middle and High School Students
On Monday, all FCPS parents/caregivers and middle and high school students received an email to participate in a voluntary and confidential survey. (Please check your spam folder if you have not received it.)
Questions refer to proposed changes to FCPS’ SR&R document for next year. This document outlines the rules that students are expected to follow, and guidelines for consequences if those expectations are not met. Possible changes include:
-
Universal Discipline: Charts will list consequences and supports for students. They will help ensure that two students of the same grade will be treated fairly and receive the same level of support.
-
Standards for In-School Suspensions of Students with Disabilities: Creating standards for how in-school suspensions are handled for students who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or a 504 Plan.
-
Accommodations for Multilingual Learner Student Statements: Providing translation accommodations when Multilingual Learner students provide statements about disciplinary incidents.
The survey will be open until Friday, February 20. Survey materials are available online.
