LCES Updates 2/20/26 This Week's Updates

A Message From The Principal

Lees Corner Families,

We hope you’ve had a wonderful week! February has been a productive and busy month at Lees Corner, and our school continues to thrive with activity and learning.

We have several important updates regarding safety and upcoming activities. Please read the following information carefully:

Critical Safety: Arrival & Dismissal:

Safety is our top priority. Due to ongoing renovations and construction, there are constantly moving vehicles and equipment on campus. It is vital that all families follow our established traffic patterns:

Official Kiss & Ride Only: If you are dropping your child off by car, you must use the designated Kiss & Ride lanes where staff members are present to assist.

Hollinger Avenue Restrictions: For the safety of our students, please do not drop off students along Hollinger Avenue. Follow posted signs and please adhere to all road signs on Hollinger Avenue (including "No U-Turns") and pull all the way forward in the drop-off zone to keep the line moving smoothly.

Ramadan Accommodations

We are committed to supporting our students observing Ramadan. To ensure a comfortable environment, we have designated alternative spaces during lunch and a quiet area for prayer.  If your child is currently observing Ramadan and requires accommodations, please ensure you have communicated directly with your child’s teacher/specialists regarding their needs so we can prepare adequate supervision, space, and support.

Early Release Wednesday: February 25, 2026, 12:35pm

Please see details below, regarding Wednesday’s Early Release Day.

FCPS Student Experience Survey: Please carefully read the information regarding the upcoming FCPS Student Experience Survey, for students in Grades 3-6. This will be administered to students March 2nd-6th.

Thank you for your continued partnership!

Odyssey of the Mind

We are proud to announce that a dedicated group of sixth graders—Aarika, Annika, Clare, Jack, Krisha, Niam, and Poorva—will be representing Lees Corner Elementary School at the Odyssey of the Mind Northern Virginia Regional Tournament on February 21, 2026. Notably, they are the only elementary school group competing in their division against middle school teams.

The team has worked tirelessly to perfect an original skit centered on peace and inclusion. From engineering their own backdrops to designing creative costumes, these students have demonstrated exceptional teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Please join us in wishing them the best of luck as they showcase their creativity and hard work.

🗓️ Early Release Reminder

Please mark your calendars! Our next Early Release Wednesday is next Wednesday, Feb 25th. Most students will be dismissed at 12:35pm. Please ensure your child knows their dismissal plan for that day. We will be following the dismissal plan from December. If you need to change your child’s dismissal plan, please contact their homeroom teacher AND the main office.

FCPS Student Experience Survey, Grades 3-6

In the coming weeks, FCPS will be administering the Student Experience Survey to all students in grades 3-12. It will help the school division better understand students’ experiences in our schools. It will take about 30 minutes and be completed during school hours on March 2nd-6th. If you would like to view the survey, please visit the Student Experience Survey webpage at www.fcps.edu/student-experience-survey.  If you do not want your child to participate in the survey, you may opt them out by completing the opt-out form within this message. We will accept them prior to March 2nd. You only need to complete the opt-out form if you do not want your child to participate in the Student Experience Survey.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to make improvements in FCPS schools. If you have questions about the Student Experience Survey, please contact research@fcps.edu.

Forms are available in the following languages and can be accessed using these links if more copies are needed: Arabic | Chinese | English | Korean | Spanish | Urdu | Vietnamese

One School, One Book Kick Off

One School One Book

Thank you to the nearly 200 families participating in One School, One Book. We are so excited to share this reading adventure with you! Your copy of Mr. Lemoncello’s Very First Game was sent home this afternoon. The reading schedule begins this Sunday, February 22nd and will continue for the next several weeks. You also received a Family Fun Pack to enhance your reading experience. In school, students will have the opportunity to participate in weekly trivia in the library. More details to come about our One School, One Book Spirit Day on Friday, March 13th!

Club Picture Day is March 4th

Student club pictures will be taken on March 4.  Pictures of chorus, band, strings, Eco Club, SCA and more will have their pictures taken for the yearbook.

New Visitor Management System

We are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school’s and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.

For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check in at the front office.

But now there is also an app, which can make check-ins even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check in at school.

If you have questions or need assistance with the new system, please contact our front office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe!

Register Today With Volunteer FCPS

Volunteer FCPS allows individuals to search and register for volunteer opportunities. It helps ensure a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment here at Lees Corner ES. All volunteers must:

  • Create a profile in Volunteer FCPS.
  • Register for opportunities through Volunteer FCPS.
  • Sign in and out of schools using the visitor kiosk.

At the Volunteer FCPS site, you can complete a volunteer orientation. Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions for more information.

Celebrating the Power of School Breakfast

Multiple studies show that school breakfasts are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school breakfast consume more fruit and fiber than their peers.

This National School Breakfast Week (March 2 - March 6), FCPS Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) reminds families that they are dedicated to providing flavorful, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. New menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.

Want to know what’s for breakfast? Nutrition Services has printable menus available.

Student Fasting Meal Kits

From February 18 to March 19, students who are fasting during the day can take school meals home. These kits include one breakfast and one lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.

Families must fill out a request form each week for every student who wants a kit.

  • Cost: Meals are charged just like a normal school day.
  • Pickup: Students must grab their kits at the end of the school day.
  • Menu: Kits include school meals that are easy to heat at home.
  • Register by Monday, February 23, 2026 for the week of March 2, 2026
  • Register by Monday, March 2, 2026 for the week of March 9, 2026
  • Register by Monday, March 9, 2026 for the week of March 16, 2026

Visit the Food and Nutrition webpage for forms, deadlines, and other information. Please contact the Office of Food and Nutrition Services with any questions at FCPSFNS@fcps.edu or 703-813-4800.

A separate form must be completed for each student.

Our annual multicultural needs a co-chair! Ideally this is someone who would be willing to take over the next year (alongside a new co-chair). This event is so much fun and an amazing opportunity for our community to learn about each other. Reach out to president@leescornerpta.net with questions or interest.
