 Principal's Note

Hello, London Towne Families!

🍩 Braving the Elements

A huge thank you to everyone who bundled up and navigated the freezing temps and puddles to join us for Donuts with Grown-ups over the past 2 Fridays. Seeing the smiles despite the frigid temps and gray skies was a wonderful reminder of the warmth within our school walls. Thank you for showing up for our students and each other!

🧠 Wellness & The Power of Advocacy

We owe a special shout-out to our Wellness Team. At the Donuts with Grown-ups events, they recently shared invaluable resources on how families can support children navigating peer conflicts. As we help our Lions learn to ROAR strongly, this aligns perfectly with our focus for the quarter 3: "Advocating for Yourself and Others."

This quarter, we are encouraging students to Stop, Think, and Act. Our teachers and counselors are working with students to build their "choice toolbox" to help them identify the best course of action for different social scenarios.

  • I-Messages: We continue to practice using "I-messages" to ensure students can express their needs clearly and respectfully.

🛝 Playground & Recess News

If you’ve passed by the Towne lately, you’ve likely seen the exciting progress on our new playground! While we wait for the final touches:

  • Basketball Courts: We are hopeful to reopen these for outdoor recess this week.

  • The Field: If we get a break from the rain and the ground dries out, we’ll get the students back on the large field as well.

We know how vital fresh air, exercise, and free play are for our students’ focus and well-being. Fingers crossed that the weather begins to cooperate so our Lions can get back to burning off that energy outside!

We thank you for your continued partnership!

 Ramadan Accommodations at LTES

Families, as we are approaching Ramadan (February 18-March 28), please let us know if your child will need prayer and/ or fasting accommodations. Use this Ramadan Accommodations Form to let us know what your child will need during Ramadan.

If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Zamora at lkzamora@fcps.edu.

Student Experience Survey @ LTES

Our school will participate in the FCPS Student Experience Survey. This survey will gather important feedback from students about their school experiences to help FCPS make meaningful improvements.

All students in grades 3-6, except those who have opted out, will receive a link to the survey in their FCPS email on February 23. We will administer the survey during the school day between Monday, February 23, and Friday, March 6. Any student may take the survey at home, if they are unable to take the survey during the school day. You will receive a communication with details on how to preview the survey and opt your child out, if you choose. The electronic opt-out form can also be accessed at this link.

We believe it's important to hear from our students about what we're doing well and where we can improve. This work also aligns with the equity commitments in FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan, which include a focus on amplifying student voice and experiences as we work toward meeting plan goals.

🧸🧸Kindergarten Registration Open House🧸🧸

Our Kindergarten Open House is being held on Friday, April 10 at 8:45 a.m. to give parents of students entering school in August an opportunity to learn more about kindergarten at our school.

We recognize that parents are their children’s first teachers. Resources on the School Readiness and Transition to Kindergarten webpage provide parents with ways to support their children to help ensure a smooth transition to kindergarten.

There’s also an easy-to-follow five-step process outlined for registering your child for kindergarten. Register your child today!  Contact our registrar, Lisa Raisbeck, at lmraisbeck@fcps.edu or 703-227-5403 with any questions.

After the appointment at the school (the student and one caregiver must be present), the student will be ready for orientation or any other introductory events each school may host. Read more about the registration process

 New Visitor Management System

We are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school’s and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.

For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check-in at the front office.

But now there is also an app, which can make check-in’s even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check-in at school.

If you have questions or need assistance with the new system, please contact our front office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe!
