Dear Families,
We hope you are having a wonderful week. As we move through February, our school community continues to bustle with activity and learning. We have important updates to share with you this week regarding our upcoming schedule, our new behavior incentive, new student initiatives, safety procedures, and cultural observances.
🗓️ Early Release Reminder
Please mark your calendars! Our next Early Release Wednesday is next Wednesday, Feb 25th. Most students will be dismissed at 12:30pm. Please ensure your child knows their dismissal plan for that day. We will be following the dismissal plan from December. If you need to change your child’s dismissal plan, please contact their homeroom teacher.
🏅 Going for Gold: Olympic Behavior Challenge
In the spirit of the Winter Olympics, we have launched a new school-wide behavior incentive! Our focus is on the Olympic values of Excellence, Respect, and Friendship. What makes this initiative special is that it is students have the opportunity to recognize their peers when they spot them making positive choices, showing kindness, or working hard. We want to empower our students to see the good in each other and build a community where they celebrate one another’s success.
🛑 Arrival and Dismissal Safety
Safety is our number one priority, and we need your help to keep our arrival and dismissal lines moving smoothly and safely. Please remember the following:
-
Pull Forward: Please pull all the way forward in the drop-off zone to allow more cars to unload simultaneously.
-
Crosswalks: Always use the designated crosswalks. It is not safe to cross Kinross Circle.
-
Patience: We know the line can be long, but safe driving is critical. Please refrain from left turns into the Kiss & Ride line - even when a staff member isn’t standing at the entrance.
🌙 Ramadan Mubarak!
We are committed to supporting our fasting students during this time. To ensure we provide the appropriate accommodations, we have designated alternative spaces for students during lunch and a quiet area for prayer.
Action Required: If your child will be observing Ramadan and requires these accommodations, please complete this Ramadan at Oak Hill form as soon as possible. This helps us ensure we have adequate supervision and space prepared for everyone.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
Kelly Durso, Principal
Shelia Sobeski, Assistant Principal

Questions refer to proposed changes to FCPS’ SR&R document for next year. This document outlines the rules that students are expected to follow, and guidelines for consequences if those expectations are not met. Possible changes include:

Universal Discipline: Charts will list consequences and supports for students. They will help ensure that two students of the same grade will be treated fairly and receive the same level of support.
-
Standards for In-School Suspensions of Students with Disabilities: Creating standards for how in-school suspensions are handled for students who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or a 504 Plan.
-
Accommodations for Multilingual Learner Student Statements: Providing translation accommodations when Multilingual Learner students provide statements about disciplinary incidents.
The survey will be open until Friday, February 20. Survey materials are available online.
