Stay safe and warm this week!

Upcoming Altered Schedule Day - Mark Your Calendars!

The second day of WIDA Access for ELs will be administered on Thursday, February 12th. This assessment is a four-part federally mandated test that has very important implications for our students and our overall school community. In order to administer a four-part test to approximately 700 students, we have created an alternate schedule, much like we did last year. Please review the details below so you can plan accordingly.

Alternate Schedule - Thursday, February 12

  • All students taking the WIDA test will report to school at the regular time and should bring their FCPS-issued laptops fully charged.
  • Non-testing students will remain asynchronous to work on assignments from home. Asynchronous assignments will be available in Schoology for each class period (Periods 2, 6 and 8) beginning February 9 and will focus on reviewing previous material. Each assignment will count as a homework grade in the corresponding course.
  • Students in the POD (Category B Special Education) will attend school and remain with their case managers.

This day is a great opportunity for non-testing students to visit a college campus, plan for a senior internship, do a service learning project, or participate in another meaningful activity that follows Regulation 3200.1.

Mid-year 7th Semester Transcripts

To parents of 12th grade Seniors – Falls Church High School will automatically send Mid-year transcripts to colleges and universities this Friday, February 13 for the schools listed on your child’s Transcript Request Form (IS-111). Universities are aware of this deadline and will use 7th semester transcripts to review applications for students who applied regular action and/or received a deferral. If you have questions, please see Transcript Assistant, Ms. Hurtado Cespedes, in Student Services.

FCPS has already sent communication to all Virginia colleges (2-, 4-year public/private) to make them aware of our FCPS semester reports timeline of February 13th.  Students can always contact the admissions office of non-Virginia schools to make them aware of the FCPS timeline, but it may not be necessary since this is usually common practice. Again, there is no need for the student to submit a 7th semester request from the college. We will automatically send the report to every college in which you/your child has submitted a transcript request form, check Naviance to verify your child’s list.  Falls Church HS staff will work as fast as we can when the reports become available this week. We know that this is usually a stressful time of year while waiting for admission decisions and want to reassure you that we will send the needed information to the colleges.

Help Keep Our Schools Phone-Free!

Please remind your child that cell phones and personal devices (earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) cannot be used during passing periods. Cell phones are also not permitted to be used as an instructional tool, with some limited exceptions for students with IEPs.

Phones and personal devices must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell) — except for high school students during lunchtime in designated lunch spaces.

FCPS’ cell phone policy helps students stay focused, safe, and engaged at school. Visit our Cell Phone Policy webpage for more information and answers to frequently asked questions, including consequences for cell phone policy violations and exceptions for students with medical conditions or IEP/504 plans.

If you need to contact your student during the school day, please call your child’s school.
