Paw Prints: Updates from Dr. Grove

Dear Wolftrap Families,

We are hopeful to get back to our usual schedule this week. Thank you for your continued support of safety protocols as we navigate the cold weather and lingering effects of the storm.

This week is Valen-Kind Spirit Week. Spread kindness and positivity throughout our school community by joining in the fun. Each day features a theme to help students show appreciation, inclusion, and school spirit. Tuesday's theme is Peace Out. Wednesday is I Get U. Thursday is Be a Hero. Friday is Have a Heart.

We continue planning for the 2026-2027 school year, and that includes welcoming our newest Wolfies! We will be publishing our Kinder orientation date very soon.  Eligible children can be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps schools prepare and ensure they have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.  If your child will attend Wolftrap or you know someone who has a Kindergarten aged child, please contact the Wolftrap office for guidance to gather necessary documents and complete registration forms as soon as possible. FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, please visit the FCPS Registration webpage

🌞🌞Warm Up FCPS Divisionwide Spirit Day: Tired of all the cold weather? Let’s warm up with a little school spirit across the division! Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid is encouraging all FCPS students, teachers, and staff to shake the wrinkles out of their brightest outfits and tropical wear to help brighten everyone’s moods on Thursday, February 19.

Meal Kits for Fasting Students: From February 18 to March 19, students who are fasting during the day can take school meals home. These kits include one breakfast and one lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.

Families must fill out a request form each week for every student who wants a kit. The first deadline is Wednesday, February 11, for the week of February 16. Please note other important details below:

  • Cost: Meals are charged just like a normal school day.
  • Pickup: Students must grab their kits at the end of the school day.
  • Menu: Kits include school meals that are easy to heat at home.

Visit the Food and Nutrition webpage for forms, deadlines, and other information. Please contact the Office of Food and Nutrition Services with any questions at FCPSFNS@fcps.edu or 703-813-4800.

REMINDER: Keep Your Child Warm During Outdoor Activities: At Wolftrap, we will monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories that may prevent children from being outside. *We have experienced several cold advisories the past week. Make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. View the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather. If you need assistance getting cold-weather clothing for your family, please call Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) at 703-222-0880. Their multilingual staff can assist with any challenges you are facing, including food, shelter, employment, financial assistance, and health. You can also reach out to Ms. Azita Behdad, abehdad@fcps.edu,  our family liaison.
