FCPS Schools Open on Time for Monday, February 9, 2026

February 8, 2026

Hello FCPS Families and Staff,

This weekend our weather team traveled around the county to see first hand the progress of ongoing efforts to clear snow and ice from sidewalks and bus stops. We are pleased to report that these efforts have done enough for us to return to our regular school day.

With that in mind, all FCPS schools and offices will open on time for Monday, February 9, 2026.

In anticipation of a full day of school, we ask that families help students go to bed on time so they are ready. Please also make sure that your child is dressed appropriately, with warm winter layers and coats, gloves, and hats. I encourage you to visit our Winter Weather Resources page that has more information for families about dressing warm, academic support for students, and Fairfax County services.

Please continue to stay vigilant on your way to and from work, so as to provide students who ride the bus, walk, or use kiss-and-ride with the safest traveling conditions possible. For families who are able to, we encourage you to check that your child’s walking route to school is as safe as possible with the snow and ice, or, if possible, carpool with other families.

The Bus Delay website will share the latest information on the status of your child’s bus if it is more than 10 minutes late. Families will also receive an email if a bus is more than 30 minutes late.

If you feel that your child is still safest staying home, please make sure to call your child’s school to get an excused absence.

Additional updates will be available on the FCPS website and the FCPS mobile app.

With warmer temperatures in the forecast for this week, my hope is that we can continue to dig out from this bitter cold, ice, and snow. I want to extend a huge thank you to all of you for your flexibility and patience last week as we worked through a modified schedule to keep everyone safe – together, all things are possible!

Take good care,

Dr. Michelle C. Reid
