Today is our 100th day of school...we have some really old Kindergarten students!
Dear Wakefield Forest Families,
We were grateful to have our students back for a full week! It was a high-energy stretch filled with Valentine's Day treats and 100th Day of School festivities.
Beyond the classroom celebrations, we have some very special staff news to share:
-
New Faces: Please join us in welcoming our new Building Supervisor, Bola Shehata, and our new custodian, Hurys Gomez Mendoza. We are thrilled to have them on the team keeping our school running smoothly!
-
A Major Achievement: We are incredibly proud of Mary Muratore, ESOL Teacher. She is not only the Wakefield Forest Teacher of the Year but has also been named the Woodson Pyramid Elementary Teacher of the Year! We are so lucky to have her expertise and dedication at our school every day.
Have a great weekend.

Lunar New Year
🐎 새해 복 많이 받으세요! 新年快乐! Chúc mừng Năm Mới! Wishing good fortune to those in our community who celebrate Lunar New Year! For those in many East and Southeast Asian countries, including Pacific Islanders, the Lunar New Year is one of the most important holidays of the year and is all about ushering in luck and prosperity with family. #OurFCPS
Ramadan
Ramadan Mubarak to those in our community who observe! In Islam, Ramadan is the most sacred month of the year. During this month Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn to sunset each day while striving to increase their spirituality, through prayers, charity, and good deeds. Muslims believe it was during this month that God revealed the first verses of the Holy Quran to Prophet Muhammad. #OurFCPS
Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday is observed as a holy day of prayer and fasting in many Western Christian denominations. It marks the beginning of Lent, a time of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving leading up to Easter. Many Christians attend special Ash Wednesday church services, at which churchgoers receive ashes on their foreheads as a sign of penance. #OurFCPS
From February 18 to March 19, 2026, a Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) waiver allows students fasting during the school day to request take-home meal kits. These kits include a complete school breakfast and lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.
Important Meal Kit Information:
- Kits are charged based on a student’s meal status (Free, Reduced, or Paid).
- Students may claim one breakfast and one lunch kit per day.
- Students who eat a meal at school during the day are not eligible for a take-home kit on the same day.
- Kits are distributed at the end of the school day. Students must pick up their own kits; adults are not permitted to collect them.
Parents or guardians must submit a weekly request form via the FCPS FNS website by the deadlines:
-
February 16, 2026 for the week of February 23, 2026
-
February 23, 2026 for the week of March 2, 2026
-
March 2, 2026 for the week of March 9, 2026
-
March 9, 2026 for the week of March 16, 2026
This month in Zones of Regulation students have been learning to identify triggers and sparks. Triggers and sparks are situations that cause us to feel less regulated.
A trigger is an unwelcome event or sensation that causes uncomfortable feelings, such as anger, worry, sadness, or panic. This may cause us to change Zones. Example: Doing chores, doctor appointment
A spark is a welcome event or sensation that causes stronger feelings of joy, such as excitement, elation, or silliness. Even positive events can change our Zones. Example: video games, party
Home Connection: Ask your child about their triggers and sparks.

Save the date...our Kindergarten orientation/open house is being held on Friday, April 10th, from 2:00 - 4:00 PM. This is an opportunity where families can learn more about Kindergarten at Wakefield Forest. Families should bring their child as we will conduct some quick assessments during the visit. Please stay tuned for more detailed information.
Please check your child’s Thursday folder for the Q2 Report Card and some other forms for the 2026-27 school year. We’ve included hard copies of the Student Intention Form (all students), the PK Survey (rising Kindergarteners only), and the Rising 7th Grade Immunization Letter (current 6th graders). We appreciate you returning these to the front office in person or by email salbermani@fcps.edu.
Our school will participate in the FCPS Student Experience Survey. This survey will gather important feedback from students about their school experiences to help FCPS make meaningful improvements.
All students in grades 3-6, except those who have opted out, will receive a link to the survey in their FCPS email on February 23. We will administer the survey during the school day between Monday, February 23, and Friday, March 6. Any student may take the survey at home if they are unable to take the survey during the school day. You will receive a communication with details on how to preview the survey and opt your child out if you choose.
We believe it's important to hear from our students about what we're doing well and where we can improve. This work also aligns with the equity commitments in FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan, which include a focus on amplifying student voice and experiences as we work toward meeting plan goals.
|
Please check your email for a link to a survey on suggested changes to FCPS’ SR&R for school year 2026-27. All FCPS parents/caregivers are invited to participate in this voluntary and confidential survey, which is open from now until February 20.
Possibly missed the email? You can also participate in the survey using this link during the week of February 16th: Link to Survey
