Announcement of Hayfield’s New Principal - Antonio DiBari

The Region 6 Leadership Team is pleased to announce that Mr. Antonio DiBari has been appointed as the new principal of Hayfield Secondary School, effective February 23, 2026.

Mr. DiBari brings a distinguished track record of excellence within Fairfax County Public Schools to this role. He is currently serving as the principal of Westfield High School, where his leadership has been defined by high academic achievement and the cultivation of a positive, inclusive school climate. His diverse experience includes supervising special education, mathematics, and AVID departments, ensuring a comprehensive approach to meeting the unique learning needs of all students while maintaining a rigorous focus on academic excellence.

During his tenure at Westfield, Mr. DiBari demonstrated a remarkable ability to drive rapid improvements in both student behavior and academic performance. Under his leadership, the school saw a significant reduction in chronic absenteeism, dropping from 21% to 11.4%, alongside increased math performance for students with disabilities. By implementing intentional systems of accountability, he consistently reduced out-of-school suspensions and Hearings Office referrals, aligning perfectly with Hayfield’s priority of rebuilding and sustaining a healthy school culture. Welcome Mr. DiBari!

Japanese Class Field Trip

Beyond vocabulary and grammar, Japanese 1 students recently experienced culture firsthand during a visit to the National Museum of Asian Art on January 22nd. Highlights included a guided gallery tour featuring 15th-century tea bowls and byōbu folding screens, as well as a tea-tasting experience where students practiced the mindful etiquette of a traditional tea ceremony. While the art and tea were captivating, many students noted that the time spent together on the bus was their favorite part, strengthening their sense of community as they moved into the new quarter.

Middle School Pass Procedure Update:

We are writing to share an update to our hallway pass procedure that will begin February 9th.

To help minimize instructional disruptions and support student responsibility, students will now receive four hallway passes per class, per quarter to address their needs (restroom, clinic, locker, etc.) Once all passes for a class are used, students will be expected to remain in class unless there is an exception.

Students will continue to have the opportunity to take care of their needs (restroom, clinic, locker visits) at the beginning and end of the day, during passing time between each period, and during lunch.

We want to be clear that medical needs will always be honored. Students with documented medical conditions, health plans, or other extenuating circumstances will continue to receive appropriate accommodations. Families with questions or concerns about medical needs should contact the school nurse or administration.

Our goal with this change is not to deny students access to restrooms, but to:

  • Encourage students to plan ahead
  • Reduce frequent interruptions to learning
  • Promote responsibility and independence

Teachers will review expectations with students, and we appreciate your partnership as we work together to create a focused and supportive learning environment.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Plant the Moon- Middle School After-School Program

The middle school after-school program is thrilled to kick off the Plant the Moon Challenge, an exciting eight-week global science experiment. In a wonderful display of mentorship, the team is being led by four high school students—all former Hawks Stay After participants—who have returned to guide our current students through this lunar adventure.
