Dear Woodley Hills Family,

It was such a joy to see our hallways filled with smiling faces and hear laughter again after our long snow break. We missed our students dearly during the winter weather, and seeing their enthusiasm for learning as they returned to the building truly warmed our hearts. We hope your time at home was safe and cozy.

As we settle back into our routines and move into the second half of the school year, I want to emphasize how important every day of learning is for our students. Consistent attendance is the key to building strong academic habits and ensuring your child feels connected to our school community. We are so excited for all the growth and discovery ahead of us this semester, and we look forward to seeing your child here every day.

Dr. LaChelle R. Williams, Principal

Learn About Kindergarten at Woodley Hills Elementary

Our kindergarten orientation is being held on March 25 to give students entering school in August an opportunity to learn more about kindergarten at our school.

We recognize that parents are their children’s first teachers. Resources on the School Readiness and Transition to Kindergarten webpage provide parents with ways to support their children to help ensure a smooth transition to kindergarten.

There’s also an easy-to-follow five-step process outlined for registering your child for kindergarten. Register your child today! Contact our registrar Sandra Guzman, at 703-799-2001, or by e-mail at sguzman@fcps.edu with any questions or to initiate enrollment.

Help Keep Woodley Hills Phone-Free!

Please remind your student that cell phones and personal devices (AirPods, earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell). Cell phones are also not permitted to be used as an instructional tool.

FCPS’ cell phone policy helps students stay focused, safe, and engaged at school. Visit FCPS’ cell phone policy webpage for more information and answers to frequently asked questions, including consequences for cell phone policy violations and exceptions for students with medical conditions or IEP/504 plans.

If you need to contact your student during the school day, please call our front office at 703-799-2000.

Calling All Career Day Volunteers!

Our annual Career Day is coming up on March 4, and we need your help to make it an inspiring experience for our students! Career Day gives our elementary students the opportunity to explore a wide variety of careers, ask questions, and begin imagining the many possibilities for their future.

If you or someone you know would like to share about their career, please consider volunteering and sharing the Career Day flyer with friends, family members, or community connections. We currently have 6 presenters signed up, and our goal is to reach at least 21 presenters so students can learn about many different career paths.

Students are curious about all kinds of careers. Some examples of careers students enjoy learning about include (but are not limited to):

  • Doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
  • Teachers, principals, and school staff
  • Police officers, firefighters, and EMTs
  • Engineers and architects
  • Scientists and environmental workers
  • Artists, musicians, and performers
  • Chefs and bakers
  • Military service members (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard)
  • Veterinarians and animal care workers
  • Athletes and coaches
  • Technology and computer-related careers
  • Entrepreneurs and business owners
  • Construction workers and skilled trades

Thank you for helping us show our students the many paths their futures can take! If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Gibbs or Ms. Thompson.
