Two-Hour Delays for Thursday and Friday

All FCPS schools will open two hours late on Thursday, February 5, and Friday, February 6. School will begin two hours after regularly scheduled start times. Central and school offices will open on time both days.

Updates for next week will be shared on Sunday afternoon.

Winter Weather Transportation Reminders

The FCPS Office of Transportation Services will notify families of any changes to bus stops due to road conditions. Until roads and bus stops are completely clear of snow, there may be some bus delays. Families can monitor the Bus Delay website to get up-to-date information on routes that are running more than 10 minutes late. Parents will also receive an email if a bus is more than 30 minutes late.

Get Your Weather Updates ASAP

Be among the first to know when school is delayed or closed due to inclement weather by:

  • Updating your cell phone number in ParentVUE to receive urgent text alerts.
  • Downloading the FCPS mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Then adjust your phone settings to allow for the app to send push notifications.

Help Keep Our Schools Phone-Free!

Please remind your child that cell phones and personal devices (earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) cannot be used during passing periods. Cell phones are also not permitted to be used as an instructional tool, with some limited exceptions for students with IEPs.

Phones and personal devices must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell) — except for high school students during lunchtime in designated lunch spaces.

FCPS’ cell phone policy helps students stay focused, safe, and engaged at school. Visit our Cell Phone Policy webpage for more information and answers to frequently asked questions, including consequences for cell phone policy violations and exceptions for students with medical conditions or IEP/504 plans.

If you need to contact your student during the school day, please call your child’s school.

The event featured some recipes developed by students, including the winning dish from the Mystery Basket Throwdown. Read about both events.

Meal Kits for Fasting Students

From February 18 to March 19, students who are fasting during the day can take school meals home. These kits include one breakfast and one lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.

Families must fill out a request form each week for every student who wants a kit. The first deadline is Wednesday, February 11, for the week of February 16.

  • Cost: Meals are charged just like a normal school day.
  • Pickup: Students must grab their kits at the end of the school day.
  • Menu: Kits include school meals that are easy to heat at home.

Visit the Food and Nutrition webpage for forms, deadlines, and more information. Please contact the Office of Food and Nutrition Services with any questions at FCPSFNS@fcps.edu or 703-813-4800.

Justice High School Brings Murder, Mayhem, and Madcap Comedy to Life

students performing theatre on stage

FCPS students are talented actors, musicians, and visual artists. Many FCPS high schools participate in the Washington, D.C., chapter of the Critics and Awards Program for High School Theatre, otherwise known as the Cappies.

In this program, high school theater and journalism students are trained as critics, attend shows at other schools, write reviews, and publish those reviews in local newspapers. This review of Justice High School’s production of “Clue: On Stage” was written by Allison Rigsbee of Hayfield Secondary School.
