Dear Haycock Families,
It felt good to have a full, regular schedule day today. We imagine you felt the same.
We are super proud of our fourth graders! They did wonderful performances of important historical speeches on Friday. We are grateful to the Ford's Theater teaching artists and the fourth grade teachers who made this learning opportunity come to life for our students.
Consistent attendance at school is so important. It certainly impacts achievement and learning. You will be receiving an attendance parent report in the coming week for each of your children at Haycock. When a student is absent 18 or more days during a single school year, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) identifies that student as chronically absent. The attendance parent report you will be receiving is another way for us to partner with you to make sure that is not the case for any of our students at Haycock. The VDOE does not consider whether an absence was excused or unexcused- they count total absences. If your child is sick, by all means keep them home. Otherwise, avoid trips and appointments that will take them out of school!
Wednesday, February 18 is our next 3 hour early release day. Students will be released at 1:05 p.m. You should receive an email from us asking you to confirm what we understand your plans are for each child for that day.
We hope you will be able to join us next Friday, February 20 for our next Cougar Connections and Conversations Parent Coffee. Our school psychologist and social worker will be presenting on executive functioning support at home and school. Check in at the office first and join us in the library at 9:30 a.m.
Happy Valentine's Day to all. 💖
With appreciation for your partnership,
Liz Beaty, Principal embeaty@fcps.edu
Heather Boyd, AP HABoyd@fcps.edu
