Chantilly Band Day

Chantilly Band Day

Chantilly Band Day was a huge, snowy success!  On Friday Jan 30th, many Lees Corner 6th grade band students worked with elementary and middle school band directors in the Chantilly pyramid collaborating with over 150 elementary students from Greenbriar West, Greenbriar East, Poplar Tree, Oak Hill, Navy, Waples Mill and Brookfield elementary schools along with student volunteers from Chantilly High, Oakton High, Franklin MS, Rocky Run MS.  Mrs. Hill helped to facilitate the event and was very pleased with the work our students accomplished.  In one day, our students learned new music and performed that music for families in our community.  Thank you to all the families who attended this event. We look forward to next year’s “Chantilly Band Day”!

Happy National School Counseling Week

Counselors

This week, we proudly celebrate National School Counseling Week by honoring the incredible dedication of Mrs. Polite and Mrs. Spears. As the heart of our school community, they set the essential frame for how we work with and support all students and families, ensuring everyone feels heard and valued. Beyond their direct work with children, they are a vital resource for our educators, readily supporting staff and teachers in their daily efforts to foster student success.

Always readily available and deeply committed, they serve as a constant source of strength for us all. Through the daily hustle and the constant growth of the school year, Mrs. Polite and Mrs. Spears are the steady anchors of our community. They bring a combination of grace, patience, and clear direction to every student they meet, turning daunting challenges into manageable steps. Thank you both for your tireless advocacy and the genuine care you pour into our lives. We are truly lucky to have you at Lees Corner!

Virginia Kindness Week: February 9th-13th

Kindness Spirit Week

Schools can promote and foster kindness all school year. However, each year in Virginia we have celebrated kindness week during the second week in February. The purpose of Kindness Week is to recognize that simple day-to-day acts of kindness enable our schools, communities, and state to be a kinder, safer, healthier, and more inclusive place to live, work, learn, and play. We invite students and staff to participate in our Virginia Kindness Spirit Week and encourage all to complete the Kindness Action of the Day. Additional ideas are linked in the spirit week flyer.

Student Fasting Meal Kits

From February 18 to March 19, 2026, a Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) waiver allows students fasting during the school day to request take-home meal kits. These kits include a complete school breakfast and lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.

Important Meal Kit Information:

  • Kits are charged based on a student’s meal status (Free, Reduced, or Paid).
  • Students may claim one breakfast and one lunch kit per day.
  • Students who eat a meal at school during the day are not eligible for a take-home kit on the same day.
  • Kits are distributed at the end of the school day. Students must pick up their own kits; adults are not permitted to collect them.

Parents or guardians must submit a weekly request form via the FCPS FNS website by the deadlines:

  • February 11, 2026 for week of February 18, 2026
  • February 16, 2026 for the week of February 23, 2026
  • February 23, 2026 for the week of March 2, 2026
  • March 2, 2026 for the week of March 9, 2026
  • March 9, 2026 for the week of March 16, 2026

Forms must be submitted on time to receive meal kits for the following week.

2026 - 2027 Kindergarten Survey

Virginia Law, section 22.1-254, requires that children who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2026, must be enrolled in Kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year unless the parent or guardian notifies the school in writing that they do not wish the child to attend school until the following year.

If you have a child who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2026, please complete this form and return it by February 20, 2026.

Please share this information with neighbors who have children who will be eligible for Kindergarten, as we want to reach Lees Corner families who do not have children currently attending school.

The information on this survey will help the school plan for adequate facilities and personnel for the 2026-2027 school year. You may return a hard copy to to your child's teacher or you may save and email the completed form to jwboddie@fcps.edu.  We thank you in advance for returning the form by February 20, 2026.

2026 Franklin Band & Orchestra Camp – Registration Now Open!

Franklin Band and Orchestra Camp

Franklin Band and Orchestra Camp is a local summer program designed to develop young musicians of ALL levels and is open to rising 4th through 9th graders.  Students participate in band or orchestra ensembles that meet their ability and experience level, aiming to further develop these musicianship skills throughout the camp experience. This event is so much fun and an amazing opportunity for our community to learn about each other. Reach out to president@leescornerpta.net with questions or interest.
