Kings Park Families,
It was a pleasure welcoming students and staff back to the building today after our extended weather-related closure. Your continued patience and partnership is requested in the coming days as we work together as a school community to prioritize student safety at arrival and dismissal.
This week is National School Counseling Week, which highlights the tremendous impact school counselors have in helping students do their best in school and plan for their future. We are thankful to have two amazing school counselors at Kings Park, Corri Shusterman and Tracy Rossi, who work with students in a variety of different capacities, whether it is through classroom lessons, group sessions, or individual counseling. Learn more about the role of school counselors in FCPS.
Ms. Shusterman and Ms. Rossi have helped organize next week’s Kindness Olympics, coinciding with the Winter Olympics. Check out the details below and “go for the gold” by joining in the spirit week and/or contributing to the food drive!

3-Hour Early Release Wednesday - February 18th (Grades K-3)
Kings Park’s next 3-hour Early Release Wednesday is Wednesday, February 18th, for students in grades K-3. Dismissal plans on record will be sent via TalkingPoints early next week. Changes to dismissal plans must be received by noon on Friday, February 13th. Preschool follows a normal schedule that day.
It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!
Kindergarten helps children learn and practice the social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives.
Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events, including orientation, in the spring. Eligible children can be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps schools prepare and ensure they have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.
If your child will attend our school, please gather necessary documents and complete registration forms as soon as possible.
FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, please visit the FCPS Registration webpage.

📚 Finishing Up Different Perspectives in Language Arts 📚
Benchmark Unit 4 in Language Arts is coming to a close! Over the last several weeks, our students have learned, read, and written about the perspectives of characters, authors, and readers.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: If your pet (or a stuffed animal) could talk, what do you think it would say about its day?
- Activity: Ask your child to retell a familiar story from another character’s point of view.
At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.
