It’s great to be back into our routines and even better to see everyone again at Sunrise Valley! Thank you for your support with arrival and dismissal as we navigated icy roads and heavier traffic.
This Friday marked the opening of the Winter Olympics. Will your family be watching? Do you have a favorite event? And of course, it’s also Super Bowl Sunday, Seahawks vs. Patriots. Are you there for the game, the commercials, or the food? As a Commanders fan, I don’t have a strong pull for either team, so I’ll be showing up for the commercials and the chili!
☕ Sit back and enjoy SVTV's weekly report. This week features a new program, Valley Voices, a must see!

Thank you to everyone who shared snow day photos. It’s been wonderful to see our students and families enjoying time together and making memories with friends.
Thank you to Ms. Heather Smith and Dr. Phillip Kancianic (“Dr. K”) for leading our chorus singers at the George Mason basketball game on Wednesday evening. Our students proudly sang the National Anthem and represented Sunrise Valley beautifully.

In October, we launched our first parent session with Ms. Mary Willcox Smith, focused on helping families shift from reaction to connection using her science-backed Microstep Method.
In March, we’re excited to host our second session featuring Ms. Laura Hayes. Worry and anxiety are a common part of childhood but knowing how to respond can make a big difference.
Join the Sunrise Valley Mental Health Team for an evening focused on understanding worry, how anxiety works in the brain, and practical ways parents can support children without unintentionally feeding worry and anxiety.
Families will leave with helpful tools and language that build confidence and resilience.
Mark your calendars—you won’t want to miss it!
Join us on Wednesday, February 11 for the combined PTA Meeting and Principal's Coffee featuring a Tech Talk with Mr. Stewart, School Based Technology Specialist.
Registration deadline: Friday, February 13
Registration is now open for Show What You Know, a well-loved Sunrise Valley tradition where students demonstrate their knowledge or passion about a favorite subject by creating a display board and sharing it with others. This year's FREE event will take place on Thursday, February 26.
To participate, students must register here! Parent volunteers also needed to collect and set up boards and tables. Volunteer here. Great service opportunities for teens!
Questions? Contact Micah Chi or Jennifer Glynn.
Our playground blacktop is currently covered in snow and our students are unable to get outside for recess. The PTA is recruiting volunteers to help! Please help us shovel out the blacktop to get it usable. Shovelers can come before, after or during school hours. Volunteers can access the playground through the gate by the kiss and ride entrance. If arriving during school hours, you must sign in at the front office first. This is a great volunteer opportunity for older siblings who need service hours. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
THANK YOU to Matt Oettinger and Sasha Hafner for spending Friday morning chipping away! We cannot thank you enough!
This event is sponsored by the Sunrise Valley Elementary School PTA. This event and materials are neither sponsored nor endorsed by the Fairfax County School Board, the Superintendent, or this school.

K & K Insurance Group offers student accident insurance coverage that parents may purchase. For families without other medical insurance, this plan may be a helpful resource. Additionally, for families who already have coverage, this plan may help offset costs such as deductibles and co-pays. Coverage may be purchased at any time during the school year.
Fairfax County Public Schools does not provide medical insurance for accidents that occur at school. Parents may want to consider if purchasing voluntary student insurance is appropriate for their family.
From February 18 to March 19, 2026, a Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) waiver allows students fasting during the school day to request take-home meal kits. These kits include a complete school breakfast and lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.

- Kits are charged based on a student’s meal status (Free, Reduced, or Paid).
