Exploring rhythm through scarf movement and color!
Dear Families,
This week, our students will reach an exciting milestone as we mark the 100th day of school. It’s been a joy to watch them grow, learn, and build confidence since the very first day — their progress and joy are so fun to see.
Students are welcome to bring Valentines to share with classmates on Friday, February 13th. To help us care for all of our learners, please do not send candy. We have many food allergies, sensitivities, and families who prefer that their child not eat candy at school. Instead, trinkets, pencils, fidgets, or other small non-food items are perfect and appreciated. You are not required to bring anything. We will also not be sending home class lists - children can bring them without names, which makes it easier to hand out.
We would also love to invite you to join us for a Family “Love Lunch” on Friday, the 13th. It will be a special time to gather, connect, and celebrate our wonderful community. See below for more information and your child’s lunch time.
Thank you for your continued love and support—here’s to celebrating 100 days of learning and a whole lot of love. ❤️
With appreciation,
Bailey’s Upper Admin Team

Upcoming Student Experience Survey at Bailey’s Upper ES
Our school will participate in the FCPS Student Experience Survey. This survey will gather important feedback from students about their school experiences to help FCPS make meaningful improvements.
All students in grades 3-5, except those who have opted out, will receive a link to the survey in their FCPS email on February 23. We will administer the survey during the school day between Monday, February 23, and Friday, March 6. Any student may take the survey at home, if they are unable to take the survey during the school day. On January 15th in our Thursday Folder, you received a letter with details on how to preview the survey and opt your child out, if you choose. The electronic opt-out form can also be accessed at this link.
We believe it's important to hear from our students about what we're doing well and where we can improve. This work also aligns with the equity commitments in FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic

Dangerous Cold is Here: Know the dangers of being out in frigid temperatures
As we venture outside into temperatures that are below freezing, it’s important to know the potential risks to which you’re exposing yourself. Chief among them are hypothermia and frostbite. Take note of these tips to help protect your family in these extreme conditions:
Hypothermia
Hypothermia is a condition caused by the body’s inability to produce heat faster than it leaves the body. Hypothermia can set in when the body’s temperature drops below 95 degrees. Hypothermia comes on gradually, so it can go unnoticed, and can have fatal results if not attended to promptly, so be sure to watch for any of these symptoms.
- Shivering
- Confusion
- Shaky hands
- Slurred speech
- Drowsiness or tiredness
- Shallow breathing
- Lack of coordination
- Loss of consciousness
If you or someone around you is experiencing any of the symptoms of hypothermia, seek medical attention as soon as possible. Take these precautions until you can see a physician:
- Provide shelter from the cold
- Cover the person with blankets
- If they are on the ground, get them up, or put something beneath them to help insulate them
- If able, provide warm beverages to help bring up the body’s temperature.
Frostbite
Frostbite occurs when skin and its underlying tissue are exposed to very cold temperatures and freezing conditions. Skin that appears waxy or hard and has a gray tone may have frostbite. Damaged skin may also itch or burn. Frostbitten skin may also turn red as the affected area thaws.
To help prevent frostbite:
- Wear warm clothing and dress in layers.
- Use hats, gloves, scarves, thick socks, and well-insulated boots to cover body parts that are prone to frostbite (nose and ears).
- Remember that even brief exposure to extreme cold can cause frostbite.
- If you notice the signs of frostbite, go into a warm area as soon as possible.
If you have frostbite, be treated by a medical professional as soon as possible. Take these precautions until you can see a physician:
- Unless absolutely necessary, do not walk on frostbitten toes or feet.
- Gently warm the frostbitten area in warm water (not hot) until the skin appears red and warm.
- Do not use direct heat to warm the skin, rub or massage the skin, or break blisters.
