A Note From the Principal

Hello Daniels Run Families,

It’s been a very short week with multiple delays and a frigid weekend ahead—thank you for your flexibility and patience. Despite the limited hours, our staff and students have been working hard and prioritizing academics, making the most of our time together.

We are also excited to share that our chorus will be performing at the school board meeting on Thursday. We are proud of their hard work and appreciate the opportunity for our students to share their talents with our school community.

We are excited to begin planning for International Night on March 12 and would love for families to share about their countries and cultures. A sign-up link is included below, and the PTA will reimburse up to $50 for food and supplies. Seating will be saved for families who are presenting so you won’t miss your child’s performance. Save the date for a great evening on March 12!

Stay warm this weekend.

Susan Mullen, Principal

A Big Thank You to Our Daniels Run Counselors

This week, as we recognize National School Counseling Week, we want to take a moment to shine a well-deserved spotlight on our very own Mr. Joe Gayl and Mrs. Ashleigh Fisher. In a school environment, it’s easy to focus solely on grades and test scores, but our school counselors are the ones who ensure the heart and minds of our students are cared for. Their offices are more than just a room; it’s a safe harbor where students feel seen, heard, and supported during some of the most pivotal --and sometimes challenging--years of their lives.

To Mr. Gayl and Mrs. Fisher: Your impact is seen and deeply valued. You both are often the "unsung heroes" behind the scenes, but the confidence and well-being of our students are a direct reflection of your dedication, guidance and support. Thank you for being advocates for the social/emotional well being of our students and the listening ears our school community needs.

Please join us in sharing your appreciation for these two wonderful educators this week!

Student Experience Survey

student experience survey

Hello DRES 3rd-6th grade families,

Soon our school will participate in the FCPS Student Experience Survey. This survey will gather important feedback from students about their school experiences to help FCPS make meaningful improvements.

All students in grades 3-6, except those who have opted out, will receive a link to the survey in their FCPS email. We will administer the survey during the school day between Monday, February 23, and Friday, March 6. While it is our hope that as many students as possible will participate, if you do not wish for your child to take part in this survey, please complete the opt out information HERE.

We believe it's important to hear from our students about what we're doing well and where we can improve. This work also aligns with the equity commitments in FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan, which include a focus on amplifying student voice and experiences as we work toward meeting plan goals. Thank you!
