Happy Friday!
We were so happy to welcome students back into the building this week. After the snow days last week, students and teachers jumped right back into learning with great energy. Our upper grades enjoyed an Air Force Strings concert and engaged in some real world science and math learning connected to a presentation around baking with King Arthur flour. Lastly, our 4th grade strings students put on a wonderful chorus concert - made even more special by a visit from FCPS Superintendent Dr. Reid.
Thank you to our families and staff for helping students arrive safely during the two-hour delays this week. The collaborative support to ensure students arrive ready for learning each day means so much to all of us, and we are excited to head into the month of February together as our eagles continue to soar!
Have a great weekend!
Important Dates:
Monday, February 9th: Parents can see grades in SIS ParentVUE

Student Fasting Meal Kits
From February 18 to March 19, 2026, a Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) waiver allows students fasting during the school day to request take-home meal kits. These kits include a complete school breakfast and lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.
Important Meal Kit Information:
- Kits are charged based on a student’s meal status (Free, Reduced, or Paid).
- Students may claim one breakfast and one lunch kit per day.
- Students who eat a meal at school during the day are not eligible for a take-home kit on the same day.
- Kits are distributed at the end of the school day. Students must pick up their own kits; adults are not permitted to collect them.
Parents or guardians must submit a weekly request form via the FCPS FNS website by the deadlines:

-
February 16, 2026 for the week of February 23, 2026

Forms must be submitted on time to receive meal kits for the following week.
4th grade students participating in strings showed off what they've been learning at this week's strings concert while others practiced their musical skills during specials in band. Extracurriculars are a highlight of the learning opportunities students have at CES. 🎻🎺

Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten helps children learn and practice the social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives.
Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events, including orientation, in the spring. Eligible children can be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps schools prepare and ensure they have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.
If your child will attend our school, please gather necessary documents and complete registration forms as soon as possible.
FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, please visit the FCPS Registration webpage.
Teachers and students missed each other while school was closed. Everyone was happy to be back at CES this week! 💗🏫
This year, our front display case will incorporate a collaborative approach between CES teachers and families. We will use the FCPS recognized heritage and celebration months. Families and CES staff are invited to share books, artifacts, pictures, etc. for each month.
Windows represent the opportunities we have to learn about different cultures, abilities and backgrounds. Mirrors represent children feeling valued and gives them a sense of belonging which can help validate their own experiences and identities. Doors represent experiencing another life and promotes empathy.
We will celebrate Black History Month in February. If your family wants to send something in, please contact Aubrey Thorne- adthorne@fcps.edu.

School Experience Survey at Centreville Elementary
Our school will participate in the FCPS Student Experience Survey. This survey will gather important feedback from students about their school experiences to help FCPS make meaningful improvements.
All students in grades 3-6, except those who have opted out, will receive a link to the survey in their FCPS email on February 23. We will administer the survey during the school day between Monday, February 23, and Friday, March 6. Any student may take the survey at home, if they are unable to take the survey during the school day. You will receive a communication with details on how to preview the survey and opt your child out, if you choose. The electronic opt-out form can also be accessed at this link.
We believe it's important to hear from our students about what we're doing well and where we can improve. This work also aligns with the equity commitments in FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan, which include a focus on amplifying student voice and experiences as we work toward meeting plan goals.
