LAST DAY - Rise Against Hunger Campaign
Forestville thanks all families who have donated to our Rise Against Hunger campaign. Today is the last day for collection. We hope our kids have been helpful in chipping away some of the snow-crete that has plastered our driveways and sidewalks, perhaps earning a little extra to donate. Please make plans to sign up for a slot at our Food Packing event on Saturday, February 7! This is an incredible day of service with other Langley Pyramid Schools. Remember, every bit helps and $0.42 covers the cost of a meal and a meal feeds 5-6 people. We are glad to support this project again this year. Read more information and/or donate online here!

Souper Bowl at Forestville
Forestville invites all families to contribute to our Souper Bowl! We invite students to bring in canned soup donations that will benefit our local South Lakes Food Pantry. This is a fun way to for students to get involved in the upcoming NFL Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks! They will vote for the winner by placing donated cans of soup under the team banner or placing soups under a third banner option, hoping both teams have fun! We will see if their Souper Bowl champ matches the Super Bowl winner on February 8. Soup donations will be accepted through Friday, February 6. Thank you in advance for your donations!
Picture Day Rescheduled - February 20
Forestville Picture Day has been rescheduled for Friday, February 20! Smile big and pick out your favorite outfit to celebrate the 25-26 school year.
Club Picture Day will be on Monday, February 9.

🎉Forestville Website Wins Best of the Web
Last Friday at the annual FCPS Communicators Conference, Forestville Website was named Best Elementary School Website - thanks to our curator, Ms. Heather Kattera! This is a tremendous honor with more than 140 elementary schools in FCPS. Heather was specifically recognized for her timely content, selection of pictures, crisp design and special features. If you have not recently visited our website, make it a habit as it does not disappoint! We would also be remiss if we did not acknowledge that Ms. Kattera is also our content curator for all our social media. Her features and highlights are followed by many others in the county, taking inspiration from her work. Way to go Ms. Kattera, Forestville is lucky to have you!

Math Meets Creativity! Our 5th graders put their engineering and math minds to the test today! Using Keva planks, they worked in groups to design structures where every plank held a specific decimal value. The challenge? The total structure had to equal a precise number! It was amazing to see them collaborate to solve complex problems while building something unique. Way to go, Cardinals! #ForestvilleElementary #ForestvilleSOARS #ItsAGreatDayToBeACardinal

Upcoming Student Experience Survey at Forestville
Our school will participate in the FCPS Student Experience Survey. This survey will gather important feedback from students about their school experiences to help FCPS make meaningful improvements.
All students in grades 3-6, except those who have opted out, will receive a link to the survey in their FCPS email on February 23. We will administer the survey during the school day between Monday, February 23, and Friday, March 6. Any student may take the survey at home, if they are unable to take the survey during the school day. You will receive a communication with details on how to preview the survey and opt your child out, if you choose. The electronic opt-out form can also be accessed at this link.
We believe it's important to hear from our students about what we're doing well and where we can improve. This work also aligns with the equity commitments in FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan, which include a focus on amplifying student voice and experiences as we work toward meeting plan goals.

 Prepare for Winter Weather
Winter weather has arrived! Watch this video to see how weather closing decisions are made at FCPS.
FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible, including email, text, social media, the new FCPS mobile app, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.
Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange emergency child care if needed.
⛄ Keep Your Child Warm During Outdoor Activities
We will monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories that may prevent children from being outside. Make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. View the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather.
If you need assistance getting cold-weather clothing for your family, please call Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) at 703-222-0880. Their multilingual staff can assist with any challenges you are facing, including food, shelter, employment, financial assistance, and health.

It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!
Kindergarten helps children learn and practice the social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives.
Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events, including orientation, in the spring. Eligible children can be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps schools prepare and ensure they have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.
If your child will attend our school, please gather necessary documents and complete registration forms as soon as possible.
FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, please visit the FCPS Registration webpage.
FCPS Ombuds Office Provides Confidential Guidance
The Office of the Ombuds engages with families, students, and staff to offer resources and improve the experience of each and every member of the FCPS community. Anyone seeking assistance from the Office of the Ombuds may call 571-423-4014, text 571-496-8284, email ombuds@fcps.edu, or visit the ombuds webpage, where you may submit a question.
