❄️ Safety First, Please Be Careful

School buses in snow.

Our custodians have worked extremely hard to get our school grounds ready for your arrival next week. However due to the frigid temperatures, it is important to take your time when walking to school, getting out of the car or getting on and off of buses. Give yourself extra time before you head out to school or work. We look forward to seeing you all soon. Be safe, and be warm.

WFES Green Team Eco-Code Contest - Deadline Extended to Monday, Feb. 2nd!

Since kids have had so much time at home, it would be a great opportunity for them to create an Eco-Code for the Green Team this weekend!  Deadline has been extended to Monday, February 2nd.

Help create our new WFES Eco-Code by creating a design, a drawing, a graphic or a poem that represents what our Green Team mission is at WFES (see mission below). Students and staff will vote for their favorite entry and the winner will receive a prize from the Green Team. We will also announce our first ever Eco-Code winner on the morning news.

Green Team Mission: Encouraging environmental stewardship through hands-on environmental action in our school and community with activities such as reducing waste, conserving energy, planting and maintaining wildlife habitats, and tending to edible gardens.

Student Fasting Meal Kits

From February 18 to March 19, 2026, a Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) waiver allows students fasting during the school day to request take-home meal kits. These kits include a complete school breakfast and lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.

Important Meal Kit Information:

  • Kits are charged based on a student’s meal status (Free, Reduced, or Paid).
  • Students may claim one breakfast and one lunch kit per day.
  • Students who eat a meal at school during the day are not eligible for a take-home kit on the same day.
  • Kits are distributed at the end of the school day. Students must pick up their own kits; adults are not permitted to collect them.

Parents or guardians must submit a weekly request form via the FCPS FNS website by the deadlines:

  • February 11, 2026 for week of February 18, 2026
  • February 16, 2026 for the week of February 23, 2026
  • February 23, 2026 for the week of March 2, 2026
  • March 2, 2026 for the week of March 9, 2026
  • March 9, 2026 for the week of March 16, 2026

Forms must be submitted on time to receive meal kits for the following week.

Lost & Found to be Donated Feb. 9th

lost and found

Missing a coat? Brrrr...it's REALLY COLD outside and the lost and found is still full of many warm coats, jackets, sweatshirts and more. Due to the snow storm and days out of school, perhaps you realized your child was missing a coat?  We will keep the lost and found accessible this week, and donate it the week of February 9th.

Bingo Night - New Date TBD

PTA Bingo Night was postponed due to the FCPS winter weather school closure. We will announce a new date soon. Stay warm!

🧸 Kindergarten Registration: It’s as Easy as 1-2-3…

Kindergarten class playing

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:

  1. Determine eligibility.
  2. Identify your local school.
  3. Gather documents.
  4. Fill out forms.
  5. Schedule an appointment.

After the appointment at the school (the student and one caregiver must be present), the student will be ready for orientation or any other introductory events each school may host. Read more about the registration process. For more information, contact our student information assistant/registrar, Soudad Albermani, at salbermani@fcps.edu

💻 Try Online Registration

Parents may register their children online for kindergarten through 12th grade. Learn how to begin the online registration process. When registering, parents will create (or log in to an existing) SIS ParentVUE account.

FCPS Student Experience Survey

survey

Our school will participate in the FCPS Student Experience Survey. This survey will gather important feedback from students about their school experiences to help FCPS make meaningful improvements.

All students in grades 3-6, except those who have opted out, will receive a link to the survey in their FCPS email on February 23. We will administer the survey during the school day between Monday, February 23, and Friday, March 6. Any student may take the survey at home if they are unable to take the survey during the school day. You will receive a communication with details on how to preview the survey and opt your child out if you choose.

We believe it's important to hear from our students about what we're doing well and where we can improve. This work also aligns with the equity commitments in FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan, which include a focus on amplifying student voice and experiences as we work toward meeting plan goals.

K&K Student Accident Insurance

Fairfax County Public Schools does not provide medical insurance for accidents that occur at school. Parents may want to consider if purchasing voluntary student insurance is appropriate for their family.

K & K Insurance Group offers student accident insurance coverage that parents may purchase. For families without other medical insurance, this plan may be a helpful resource. Additionally, for families who already have coverage, this plan may help offset costs such as deductibles and co-pays. Coverage may be purchased at any time during the school year.
