SVES

What a week! Dealing with the snow is one thing, but the ice created an extraordinary challenge. I hope you were able to find some moments of joy and enjoy extra time with family. Remember, we want to see those pictures, use the SVES Dropbox to share! If you spent time clearing your driveway, you know firsthand how difficult the conditions were. Our custodial team has been working tirelessly to clear sidewalks around the building. In several areas, plows created large barrier piles at sidewalk entrances, making the work especially demanding. The task has been enormous, and we are incredibly grateful for our custodial team!

As we transition back to school, please continue to use caution, as there are still icy patches. If your child typically walks to school, we encourage you to walk the route together to ensure it is safe and feasible. We may also see an increase in Kiss & Ride traffic, so thank you for your patience as we work to get students in and out of vehicles safely. Additionally, if you pick up at Door 1, we kindly ask that you do not linger, as we will need all available sidewalk space to safely load buses. Thank you in advance for your flexibility and support.

Recognizing that recent snow days and upcoming school and PTA events can make it challenging to find additional time in your day, we have decided to combine the Principal’s Coffee (originally scheduled for this Tuesday) with the PTA meeting. Both events will take place on Wednesday, February 11 at 9:30 a.m. Please see below for additional details.

I know we are all looking forward to returning to a sense of routine and structure. We look forward to seeing everyone back this week!

Ashley & Jody

Fiscal Year 2027 Proposed Budget

Sustaining Excellence, Supporting Students and Staff

On January 22, Dr. Reid presented her budget proposal to the school board for FY 2027. This budget focuses on the essentials, the base requirements, that FCPS must provide as a division while sustaining our commitment to excellence through attracting and retaining strong educators and support staff. We know that student success begins with the very best educators and support staff, and this budget honors your unwavering dedication to our students. The top priorities of FCPS’ FY 2027 Proposed Budget include:

  • Prioritizing competitive compensation for all employees. This includes funding the increases in the collective bargaining agreements for both our Fairfax Education Unions (FEU) and the Fairfax County Federation of Principals, Supervisors and Administrators (FCFPSA) bargaining units.
  • Beginning to restore last fiscal year’s reductions by fully restoring Special Education Department Chair positions and Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART) positions at non-Title I schools, as well as a partial restoration of class sizes in elementary, middle, and high schools.
  • Continuing multiyear initiatives including certified athletic trainers at each of our high schools, family liaisons, fine and performing arts stipends, student athletics and activity offerings, K-12 robotics, and educator math certification/credentialing.

The budget presentation video and slides are available on online. Dr. Reid encourages you to keep up with the budget process by watching our upcoming February 10 School Board work session or visiting FCPS’ Budget webpage

Student Fasting Meal Kits

From February 18 to March 19, 2026, a Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) waiver allows students fasting during the school day to request take-home meal kits. These kits include a complete school breakfast and lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.

Important Meal Kit Information:

  • Kits are charged based on a student’s meal status (Free, Reduced, or Paid).
  • Students may claim one breakfast and one lunch kit per day.
  • Students who eat a meal at school during the day are not eligible for a take-home kit on the same day.
  • Kits are distributed at the end of the school day. Students must pick up their own kits; adults are not permitted to collect them.

Parents or guardians must submit a weekly request form via the FCPS FNS website by the deadlines:

  • February 11, 2026 for week of February 18, 2026
  • February 16, 2026 for the week of February 23, 2026
  • February 23, 2026 for the week of March 2, 2026
  • March 2, 2026 for the week of March 9, 2026
  • March 9, 2026 for the week of March 16, 2026

Forms must be submitted on time to receive meal kits for the following week.

Kindergarten class playing

It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!

Kindergarten helps children learn and practice the social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives.

Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events, including orientation, in the spring. Eligible children can be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps schools prepare and ensure they have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.

If your child will attend our school, please gather necessary documents and complete registration forms as soon as possible.

FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, please visit the FCPS Registration webpage.
