National School Counselors Week

National School Counseling Week: February 2-6

National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors have in helping students achieve academic success and planning for a career.

School counselors work with students in a variety of different capacities, whether it is through classroom lessons, group sessions, or individual counseling. Learn more about the role of school counselors in FCPS.

Quarter End Adjustments

Due to the recent loss of instructional days, the final day of the second quarter has been moved to Tuesday, February 3. 

Teachers may continue second-quarter assessments through February 3 and will share any specific changes with students and families through Schoology. Students in semester courses will continue attending first-semester classes through February 3. Dr. Reid’s letter to the community about the end-of-quarter adjustments contains more details. 

SIS ParentVUE will be unavailable for students and parents during end-of-quarter updates from Tuesday, February 3, at 4 p.m. until Monday, February 9, at 6 a.m. (These dates have been updated with the later end of quarter date.)

Academic Advising Timeline for School Year 26-27

  1. Cancelled: Curriculum Fair | January 27, 2025 during Learning Seminar | Opportunity for students to visit different classes and get information on specific classes in which they may be interested.
  2. Academic Advising Rising Juniors | February 2-6, 2026 | Students meet with their counselor.
  3. Academic Advising Rising Seniors | February 9-13, 2026 | Students meet with their counselor.
  4. Academic Advising Rising Sophomores | February 18-24, 2026 | Students meet with their counselor.
  5. Future Spartan Orientation | April 13, 2026 |  Rising 9th graders will visit West Springfield HS
  6. WSHS Counselor Visit to Irving  |May, 2026 | One on One meeting with each student

📝 Application for the 2025 Student Representative to the School Board

The School Board student representative speaks for the interests of FCPS students. The student representative is not a member of the School Board but serves in a nonvoting, advisory capacity. Students currently in grades 9, 10, and 11 are eligible to apply. 

To be considered for the election, students are required to provide the following:

  • A written component, due Monday, February 23.
  • A 30-second candidate video statement, due Monday, March 16. Candidates will be emailed a link to record their video on Monday, March 2.

Both application components are required to be considered for the election. Read more about the election process.


Open House: Edison Academy

Edison Academy invites you to attend their in-person Open House event on Saturday, February 7, 2026 from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM (snow date is Saturday, February 21).

They are located at 5801 Franconia Road, Alexandria, VA.  The entrance is located at Door #13. You will have the opportunity to tour their state-of-the-art facilities, meet their instructors and current students, and learn more about their incredible courses!  Please feel free to contact Cassandra Deedy at (703) 924-8101 or cjdeedy@fcps.edu if you need any additional information.

West Potomac Academy: February 24, 6- 8 pm

Gap Year Fair Rescheduled and Virtual

FCPS School Counseling Services and Go Overseas will co-host the annual FCPS Gap Year Fair on February 24, from 6 to 7 p.m. virtually.

This event is for high school students and their families who are interested in learning about opportunities for the year following high school graduation. Students should register at USA Gap Year Fairs
