RAVEN REPORT
Well, there sure is a lot of snow out there! My snow day traditions are having my husband take the kids outside to play and shovel and I stay inside and back :) Thank you all for making Curriculum Night a hit. We had hundreds of families show up and their feedback was extremely positive. The information below is as of now and could change depending on any additional inclement weather cancellations or delays. Please continue to monitor the FCPS website updates as we navigate this winter weather and how it might impact this week. In the meantime, enjoy an extra day off and stay warm!

Raving Ravens |
I’d like to give a shout out to the Math 6 CT. They spent their CT sharing best instructional strategies on how to best use pictorial models when dividing fractions. This level of collaboration highlights why we are stronger together.
I’d also like to highlight AVID. To see Ms. Uccellini’s high leverage move in action, she invited me to her class last week. I was so impressed by how students were familiar with structures and routines and collaborated to support one another.
FRED Cards: Here’s what people are saying about our amazing staff. Below are some of the highlights from the recent FRED Cards that were submitted. The person’s name is who is being highlighted followed by what was said about them by a colleague. I will continue to highlight them in each Raven Report so keep them coming!
-
Michelle Minor:”Thank you for all your work with our multilingual learners, esp. our new students! I know I can always count on you for good feedback and suggestions. Thank you too for taking on the attendance kids from IPFIT!”
-
Erin Stuckey:”Thank you for your guidance and help this year. As I am learning every day you make it easier and fun. Thank you for your warmth and early morning conversations as we prepare for our day.”
-
Abena Kyerewa:”Thank you so much for all of your work to get my office cleaned over winter break and for taking great care of Poe!”

Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange emergency child care if needed.
Keep Your Child Warm During Outdoor Activities: We will monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories that may prevent children from being outside. Make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. View the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather.
If you need assistance getting cold-weather clothing for your family, please call Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) at 703-222-0880. Their multilingual staff can assist with any challenges you are facing, including food, shelter, employment, financial assistance, and health.
Winter Resources for Families: A list of resources has been compiled for students and families in case they or someone they know needs assistance while schools are closed for winter weather. Please visit FCPS’ winter resources page for information on academic support, mental health support, and county resources related to food, clothing, housing, and other needs.
Even If School Is Closed, Learning Can Continue!: We encourage students to take advantage of fun learning opportunities during snow or inclement weather days. Consider these winter activities to blend education and play at home.
📚 What’s Your Child Learning in Benchmark (Grade 6):
We are halfway through Benchmark Unit 2 in Language Arts! Sixth grade students have been exploring characters faced with difficult choices.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: What has been your least favorite reading from this unit and why?
- Activity: Watch a short clip from a movie or show, then discuss how the scene might be different if another character narrated it.
At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.
