Centreville Students, Families, and Community,
I hope everyone is staying warm and safe!. To reiterate the message that went out from FCPS earlier today, there will be no school tomorrow (Monday) due to the inclement weather. Whether you’re curling up inside with a good book or heading outside for some sledding, I hope our Wildcat community is able to enjoy your favorite winter activities and stay safe.
As we look ahead to the rest of the week, we will continue to stay in tune with any FCPS updates and how potential closures may impact the end of the quarter on Wednesday. I encourage our students to continue checking Schoology and to be prepared for whenever we are able to return to school this week.
On Friday night, I had the pleasure of celebrating our senior members of the Swim and Dive team during their meet against Westfield. I always love seeing the traditions that make Centreville special, especially running through the gauntlet and jumping into the pool to commemorate their time as student-athletes. Our seniors have truly left their mark on the Wildcat Nation, and it was a joy to celebrate them.
As we near the halfway point of the school year, this is also a great time to briefly revisit a few key student expectations that help us maintain a positive school climate:
-
Cell phones and earbuds may only be used before school, after school, or during a student’s assigned lunch period in the cafeteria.
-
Lunch expectations include remaining in the cafeteria unless students have an approved pass for the library or a teacher-supervised space. Students may not leave campus or go to the parking lot during lunch.
-
Attending class on time is essential. Students should use the warning music and bell as cues to be in class and ready to learn.
-
Bathroom use should be direct and brief, with students returning to class promptly.
Students will have a full lesson during ROAR in the coming weeks to more deeply explore these expectations and review important Student Rights & Responsibilities (SR&R) reminders.
As always, I want to thank our families and community members for your continued collaboration and communication. Working together is essential as we support our students’ growth, success, and well-being. I’m grateful to be part of such a caring and engaged Wildcat community.
Thank you and Go Wildcats!
Dr. Erik Healey, Principal

The fair will provide students with broad exposure to programs that emphasize experiential education and personal growth through travel, language immersion, directed study, outdoor adventure, community service, and internships. Student registration is encouraged.
January 30 - String-A-Palooza: String-A-Palooza will take place at CVHS on Friday, January 30, 2026! The event brings together all 5th and 6th grade string students from schools in the CVHS pyramid for a full day of music-making and fun! Students will rehearse, participate in instrument-specific clinics with directors in the pyramid, and enjoy a general string clinic led by Mrs. Taylor (Liberty Middle School) alongside CVHS orchestra directors Dr. Taylor and Mrs. Kohut. Our very own CVHS students will also be there to mentor! The day concludes with a celebratory performance at 2:45 showcasing the students’ hard work and collaboration. It’s a fantastic opportunity for young musicians to learn, connect, and play together!
February 2 - WIDA Testing Begins: Starting February 2, Centreville High School will begin WIDA testing for nearly 350 students who have already been contacted regarding their specific testing dates. We want to emphasize how important it is for students to attend and give their absolute best effort; remember our motto: "4.4, WIDA no more!" as scoring a 4.4 or higher allows students to officially exit the program.
To support our students, we are providing breakfast or lunch (depending on the testing window), snacks, and entry into a raffle for exciting prizes. Furthermore, students who show significant progress or successfully exit the program will earn prestigious cords and medallions to wear with pride during their graduation ceremony.
February 3 - Family Cafe Series - Intro to Career Pathways for Students: Join us to learn more about Career Pathways, Academies, Courses and Certifications offered in FCPS. At this session you will learn about the various career and technical education courses available to middle and high school students in FCPS. Currently, there are over 160 Career and Technical Education (CTE) course options available to students. Many CTE programs include industry credentials, work-based learning, and career and technical student organizations, allowing students to develop the skills needed to be successful in future education, training, and careers. Register here to attend.
February 12 - Northern Region Wrestling Tournament: Centreville will host the Regional Wrestling Tournament on Thursday, February 12 during the school day. Hundreds of athletes, families, and community members will be in attendance, so we will have adjusted protocols in place. Specifically, certain areas of the building will be restricted to ensure safety and security, which may impact some students and classes.
February 12-14 - All-District Chorus Competition: The following 30 students were selected to represent Centreville High School in VCDA District XI Honors Chorus! These talented singers will rehearse challenging music with renowned guest conductors February 12-14 at West Springfield HS. Prepare for Winter Weather
Winter weather will be here before you know it! Watch this video to see how weather closing decisions are made at FCPS.
FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible, including email, text, social media, the new FCPS mobile app, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.
Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange emergency child care if needed.
Keep Your Child Warm During Outdoor Activities
We will monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories that may prevent children from being outside. Make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. View the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather.
If you need assistance getting cold-weather clothing for your family, please call Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) at 703-222-0880. Their multilingual staff can assist with any challenges you are facing, including food, shelter, employment, financial assistance, and health.
Winter Resources for Families
A list of resources has been compiled for students and families in case they or someone they know needs assistance while schools are closed for winter weather. Please visit FCPS’ winter resources page for information on academic support, mental health support, and county resources related to food, clothing, housing, and other needs.
Even If School Is Closed, Learning Can Continue!
We encourage students to take advantage of fun learning opportunities during snow or inclement weather days. Consider these winter activities to blend education and play at home.
