Snowdays!
We hope you are enjoying the snow days and teacher workdays — resting, reading, and spending extra time with your children!
Tomorrow, January 30th is a teacher workday/no school.
The 2nd quarter grading timeline has been extended due to missed instructional days. Grades will now be available on Monday, February 9th through your SIS Parentvue account.
Deer Park Custodial Team!
We want to thank our wonderful custodial team for working so hard to clear our parking lot and sidewalks. They are dedicated to keeping our students and staff as safe as possible after this big storm. The neighborhood and sidewalks are still a bit challenging with the freezing temperatures so please stay safe.
Deer Park 2nd Annual Spelling Bee!
The 2nd Annual DPES Spelling Bee will be held on Wednesday, February 11th at 9:00 a.m. in the library. The earlier your student is signed up, the more time they have to prepare!
Sign up Here: https://forms.gle/qUcpWNGpxJgW1qpy5
Students are not automatically included, they need to sign up. This was so much fun last year! A positive and fun event with students supporting each other. Sign up now and be part of the fun!
🍴 Meal Kits Available for Students
In an effort to support students who may be experiencing food insecurity while our schools are closed during planned student holidays, Fairfax County Public Schools Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) is providing meal kits at specific schools for students. Meal kits will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, and Friday, January 30.
Children do not need to be present to pick up the kits, which will contain a meal and a healthy snack. No proof of eligibility or identification is required. View pickup locations for meal kits.
Student Fasting Meal Kits
From February 18 to March 19, 2026, a Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) waiver allows students fasting during the school day to request take-home meal kits. These kits include a complete school breakfast and lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.
Important Meal Kit Information:
- Kits are charged based on a student’s meal status (Free, Reduced, or Paid).
- Students may claim one breakfast and one lunch kit per day.
- Students who eat a meal at school during the day are not eligible for a take-home kit on the same day.
- Kits are distributed at the end of the school day. Students must pick up their own kits; adults are not permitted to collect them.
Parents or guardians must submit a weekly request form via the FCPS FNS website by the deadlines:
-
February 11, 2026 for week of February 18, 2026
-
February 16, 2026 for the week of February 23, 2026
-
February 23, 2026 for the week of March 2, 2026
-
March 2, 2026 for the week of March 9, 2026
-
March 9, 2026 for the week of March 16, 2026
Forms must be submitted on time to receive meal kits for the following week.
Better Sleep
- Strategies for Better Sleep
Sleep is essential to good health, and getting enough sleep has big benefits to your physical and mental health and well-being. Sleep is restorative, allowing your body time to recover and repair.
This is true for your child, too. In fact, adequate sleep in children supports healthy brain development, learning, and memory consolidation, as well as their mood. And it is important for a strong immune system and the prevention of infections. Read about how much sleep a person needs and get some sleep strategies you can use with your family.
If bedtime has been a struggle, try one (or two!) of these simple strategies:
- Keep a consistent bedtime and wake time (even weekends).
- Create a calming bedtime routine.
- Make the room dark, quiet, and cool.
- Put screens away at least 1 hour before bed or turn them to night mode.

Voluntary Student Insurance
Fairfax County Public Schools does not provide medical insurance for accidents that occur at school. Parents may want to consider if purchasing voluntary student insurance is right for their family.
K & K Insurance Group has student accident insurance coverage available for purchase by parents. If you do not have other insurance, this plan may be a resource to consider. Additionally, even if you have other coverage, this plan can help fill expensive gaps caused by deductibles and co-pays. Coverage may be purchased at any time during the school year.
Enroll here.
