Chesterbrook ES Weekly Newsletter 1.31.26

custodians

Thank you to our Custodians

Thank you to Mr. Malarin and Mr. Mov, who helped ensure Chesterbrook is ready to safely welcome back staff and students. Our parking lots and kiss n ride are ready for students.

Request: Please help clear sidewalks around your homes for our students to walk safely to bus stops and to school.

Kiss N Ride Note: Bring your patience if you are dropping off to Kiss N Ride this week. The road is not wide enough for waiting and driving down Kirby. Safety is the priority!

Principal's Message

As we came to the closure of 2nd quarter, we endured a heavy snow storm and it is taking quite some time to get back to normal. This storm was quite unusual, with the heavy ice that coated the top and made it very difficult to remove. I want to personally thank our custodians, who were short staffed, during this incredible storm. They put in days of hard work to ensure our building is safe for arrival of students. Outdoor recess will take some more time along with much needed warmth and sunshine. The tree by the tent has been taken care of to be safe (the large limb was removed) and the tent is awaiting cleanup after its collapse during this storm.

Our staff was back virtually on Thursday, participating in professional development and planning to wrap up the quarter. FCPS has extended the 2nd quarter until Tuesday to provide teachers time to wrap up data on students and prepare for closure of quarter marks. Updated timelines are below for grading.

We look forward to seeing the yearbook cover entries. With the extra time home, I hope some more students created some artwork to consider for our yearbook. It will be due by this coming Wednesday, February 4th.

Tuesday we will be taking club and group photos for our yearbook. Our patrols, ambassador groups, music ensembles and so many more will have their photos taken on Tuesday throughout the school day.

Sincerely,

Stacy Kirkpatrick, Principal

School Tardies and Absences

Important: Individual Student Reports on Attendance will be shared with Report Cards on 2/9

Students considered as "Chronically Absent" and missing too many days will be requested to particpate in extended learning on 3 hour early releases to meet our state guidelines for attendance. How do I know if my child will be on this list?  If they have missed 10 or more days of our 100 days of school, your child is considered "Chronically Absent." Here is a link that provides additional information regarding chronic absenteeism from FCPS.

Additional Instructional Hours on 3 Hour Early Released

Why does this matter? Our school receives a rating for our students' absenteeism that is generated and shared annually for all schools.  Please partner with us and ensure that your child(ren) attend school. Schedule trips and other long vacations during our school break or summer holidays.  For more information, read this link to read about the School Performance and Support

Tardies - Our school start time is 8:50 and doors open for students from kiss and ride at 8:30 a.m.  Students are considered tardy after 8:50 a.m.  We are counting tardies and request you drop children off by 8:45 to avoid tardies.  Please support your child's teacher and give your child the benefit of a calm morning by arriving on a timely basis by arriving by 8:45 a.m. or have them ride the school bus.

3 Hour Early Release Planning

If you need to update your child's plan for the next early release, please do so. We will send out confirmations as we get closer to this date.

It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!

Kindergarten helps children learn and practice the social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives.

Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events, including orientation, in the spring. Eligible children can be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps schools prepare and ensure they have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.

If your child will attend our school, please gather necessary documents and complete registration forms as soon as possible.

FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, please visit the FCPS Registration webpage

NEW Visitor Check in System- Raptor App Setup

Prior to visiting a FCPS school, visitors will need to download the Raptor Safe App and register. Registration takes 2 minutes.

Once registered, in the app a Raptor Passport is created. In the Raptor Passport, a QR code is generated that you scan upon entry into a FCPS school. A new QR code is generated each time so no screenshots.

A few notes for registration in the app: no code is needed so skip that step and foreign id's and passports can be used (as long as they are in English).
