VRES Mission

Positivity Project

1. Positivity Project at Virginia Run

Character Strength: Perseverance

This week, our school community will focus on the character strength of Perseverance. Perseverance means completing what you start despite obstacles. It means never giving up.

People who show perseverance keep trying, even when they face challenges. They stay focused on their goals and work hard, even when things don't go as planned. Those who persevere often achieve great things because they don't quit. They also learn a lot and get better at what they do.

Perseverance can also inspire others. When one person in a group keeps going despite setbacks, it can motivate the whole team to keep trying and reach their goals.

To practice and encourage the character strength of perseverance at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions.

2. Student Experience Survey

Hello 3rd- 6th Grade Families, In the coming weeks, FCPS will administer the Student Experience Survey to students in grades 3–12. This survey helps the school division better understand students’ experiences at school.

The survey will be administered during the school day between February 23 and March 6 and will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Families who would like to review the survey may visit the Student Experience Survey webpage at http://www.fcps.edu/student-experience-survey .

If you do not want your child to participate, please sign and return the opt-out form sent home in your child’s Wednesday folder this week, or complete the online opt-out form available on the Student Experience Survey webpage (http://www.fcps.edu/student-experience-survey).

This form only need to be completed if you are choosing to opt your child out, and must be submitted by Friday, February 13.

Thank you for your support in helping FCPS improve our schools. If you have questions about the Student Experience Survey, please contact research@fcps.edu.

4. 🧸 Kindergarten Registration: It’s as Easy as 1-2-3

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:

  1. Determine eligibility.

  2. Identify your local school.

  3. Gather documents.

  4. Fill out forms.

  5. Schedule an appointment.

After the appointment at the school (the student and one caregiver must be present), the student will be ready for orientation and any other introductory events each school may host. Read more about the registration process.

💻 Try Online Registration

Parents may register their children online for kindergarten through 12th grade. Learn how to begin the online registration process. When registering, parents will create (or log in to an existing) SIS ParentVUE account.

5. The Fastest Way to Hear About School Delays or Closings ❄️

Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE to make sure you receive notifications of school delays or closings. Emails and text messages are sent to parents/caregivers based on the email addresses and cell phone numbers entered in ParentVUE.

If your information is correct but you are not receiving updates from FCPS, contact the Parent Technology Help Desk at 833-921-3277, Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Watch a video to see how FCPS makes weather delays or closing decisions. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.

Even When School Is Closed, Learning Can Continue!

FCPS encourages students to take advantage of fun learning opportunities during snow days. Consider these winter activities to blend education and play for your child in the event of weather-related school closures.
