Dear Bear Families,

Winter is making itself known, and we are keeping a close eye on the upcoming snowstorm. As always, we ask families to stay alert for any potential school closures or delays as weather conditions develop.

As Dr. Reid shared in her recent message to families, we are not planning for remote learning during weather events. That said, we do want students to have access to web-based resources and activities if you choose to use them at home.

If we experience snow days, there are many ways families can continue to support learning in fun and meaningful ways. We encourage you to check out the FCPS Snow Day Activities webpage, which offers age-appropriate activities you can enjoy with your child or children while they are away from school. Remember, learning happens all around us every day, and snow days are meant to be fun, too.

For the most up-to-date information about closures, delays, or changes to the school day, please visit the FCPS Weather Cancellations Procedures webpage. If FCPS needs to make adjustments due to weather, families will be notified through email, text message, the FCPS App, FCPS social media pages, and local media outlets.

And of course, it never hurts to help the snow along. Feel free to wear your pajamas inside out, sleep with a spoon under your pillow, or show off your best snow dances. Bears are ready for whatever winter brings.

Stay warm and stay safe,

Courtney Korb

Principal

Kindergarten Registration

🧸 Kindergarten Registration: It’s as Easy as 1-2-3…

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:

  1. Determine eligibility.
  2. Identify your local school.
  3. Gather documents.
  4. Fill out forms.
  5. Schedule an appointment.

After the appointment at the school (the student and one caregiver must be present), the student will be ready for orientation or any other introductory events each school may host. Read more about the registration process. For more information, call our student information assistant, Mr. Santos at 703-426-3107.

💻 Try Online Registration

Parents may register their children online for kindergarten through 12th grade. Learn how to begin the online registration process. When registering, parents will create (or log in to an existing) SIS ParentVUE account.

Prepare for Winter Weather

Winter weather will be here before you know it! Watch this video to see how weather closing decisions are made at FCPS.

FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible, including email, text, social media, the new FCPS mobile app, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.

Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange emergency child care if needed.
