Tech Tips for Families : Lightspeed Parent Reports & Parent Portal

Fairfax County Public Schools provides families a free service to help you stay informed about your child’s online activity through Lightspeed.

Starting October 12, 2025, parents and caregivers automatically began receiving a weekly Lightspeed Student Online Activity Report. This report provides a summary of the websites your child visited during the previous week and is delivered every Sunday to your email directly from Lightspeed, our internet content filter.

Tech Tip: The email will have the subject line Filter Portal Weekly Report and will come from do_not_reply@lightspeedsystems.com. Not receiving these emails? Check your Spam or Junk folder. Still not there? Confirm with the school that the correct email address is on file in SIS.

The report will provide a summary of the sites your child visited during the previous week. The main report breaks this information down by showing how many pages per day were visited and the top 10 hosts, or sites, your child is visiting during the week.

Tech Tip: the top ten will generally include hosts connected to regular daily learning, to gain greater insight into how your child is spending their time online, Utilize the Lightspeed Parent Portal (accessible at the bottom of the weekly report email)

Benefits of Lightspeed Parent Portal include parents and guardians having access to:

Tech Tip: Students never need to navigate to a Google Chrome sign in page () since they are automatically logged in through the FCPS Chrome OS. Some students have learned that they can bypass the Lightspeed filter completely by navigating to a Chrome sign in page and then backing out of it. The login page does not count as a valid URL, which prevents it from being blocked at this time. IT has been made aware of this and teachers are doing their best to catch and address this during the academic day. If you see this in your parent report, please have a conversation with your child about it.
