Dear Churchill Road families,
Since winter break, our students have been “rockstars” getting back into their daily routines! We are so proud of them.
In the past few weeks,
- Our students and families enjoyed a winter concert by our advanced strings and band students prior to break.
- Families and students showed their creative side at a PTA Family Paint Night with our art specialist, Mrs. Wallace.
Looking ahead,
- Look for information coming out this week on how you can support Langley Pyramid’s Rise Against Hunger initiative.
- We will continue our second round of grade level parent community conversations through the end of the month.
- Parent Input for the 26-27 School Year is open now through 4 PM February 25. See specific information below.
- We encourage you to follow the FCPS budget process for next year and share your thoughts regarding the process. We have linked information below.
- School will be closed in honor of the MLK Jr. Birthday holiday on Monday, January 19.

Parent Input for the 2026-2027 School Year
As we begin planning for the upcoming school year, our staff collaborates regarding student placements. A variety of factors such as student personalities, friendships, and academic abilities are considered as we create our new classes. Other factors impacting the decision-making process of student class assignments are new student enrollments and teachers moving to a new assignment.
Churchill Road families may assist in this process by sharing insights. Please note the following when providing information. We do not accept requests for specific teachers for the upcoming grade placement. This includes hints that reference specific teachers. While all feedback is reviewed and considered, we cannot guarantee placement or non-placement with any other specific students. We do our best to create a positive learning year for your child.
Please provide your input by submitting this form as it will ensure we have your request. Please do not email us additional information. Completion of the form is optional: however, the deadline for any correspondence is Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 4 PM. Thank you for your input.
Community Conversations Underway
Calling all CRS Parents... Please join Churchill Road staff for your student's Grade-Level Parent Conversation! We are hosting our second round of grade-level specific events over the coming weeks to share information about school-wide assessments and answer any questions you may have.
Dates for each grade-level are as follows:
- Kindergarten: Friday, January 23, 2026
- 1st Grade: Monday, January 26, 2026
- 2nd Grade: Friday, January 16, 2026
- 3rd Grade: Tuesday, January 20, 2026
- 4th Grade: Monday, January 12, 2026
- 5th Grade: Wednesday, January 14, 2026
- 6th Grade:Wednesday, January 21, 2026
Look for a sign-up form to be sent to each grade level via eNotify about a week prior to the event. While registration is not required to attend, we ask that you kindly RSVP ahead of your grade-level event so we have a general idea of attendance.

Follow Our Budget Process
Encourage your neighbors, friends, and community members to follow the FCPS budget process and look for opportunities to share your ideas about funding public education. Key decision dates and engagement opportunities are coming up in the next few weeks.

⛄ FCPS Math Week January 12-16
FCPS invites you to experience a full week of family time with FREE stories, games and math activities - all from the comfort of your home.
Math Week offers families an opportunity to experience math, literacy, history, and geography in a fun and positive way. All content will be available for families in English and Spanish beginning Monday, January 12.

Apply for Your Child to Learn in Two Languages
FCPS’ 2026-27 Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program lottery opens today, Monday, January 12. The program offers students in kindergarten and first grade the opportunity to learn in English and another language — French, German, Japanese, Korean, or Spanish — for half of each instructional day.
The online, countywide lottery is open to Fairfax County residents. Families must have a SIS ParentVUE account. Students not currently enrolled in FCPS should register at their base school before applying for the immersion program.
Families applying for first grade must do so by Thursday, February 12, at 4 p.m. Those applying for kindergarten must do so by Monday, March 2, at 4 p.m.

Healthy Habits to Reduce the Spread of Flu and Other Germs
Fairfax County is seeing very high levels of influenza (flu) illness. Visits to emergency departments and urgent care centers for flu-like illness have increased, especially among children, and multiple flu outbreaks have occurred in our community and school settings.
Consider these tips from the Fairfax County Health Department to help reduce the spread of flu and other germs.
📚 Seeing Different Perspectives in Language Arts 📚
Benchmark Unit 4 in Language Arts is about points of view. Students in K-5 will be learning about why and how people create stories, and how to understand different perspectives. Grade six students will learn how a person’s life shapes their point of view.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: Have you ever disagreed with a friend? How did you see things differently?
- Activity: Make up a silly scenario with your child, like a dinosaur walking down the street or an ice cream thunderstorm. Put on a short play where you and your child each play the role of each other. How does your child think you would react to the silly scenario and why? How would you react if you were your child?
At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.
