Thank you to the PTA for organizing this very fun and well-attended event for our students!
Schools and offices will be closed on Monday, January 19, for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day Service Opportunity
Students and families can volunteer on Martin Luther King Jr. Day through Volunteer Fairfax’s family-friendly volunteer event.
This event is designed to engage families with children (ages 5 to 12) in service learning. Volunteer Fairfax invites families to work alongside local nonprofit partners and neighbors across Northern Virginia. This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
Volunteering during this holiday is one of the many ways FCPS students continue to serve their community while building Portrait of a Graduate skills, such as becoming an ethical and global citizen.

Second grade had a special visitor...a parent who works in the weather field came to talk with them about all things weather! If only he could make it snow...
Online Registration (OLR) for the 2026–2027 school year opened on January 6, 2026. Both, new and returning (re-enrolling) families can use OLR to register students in grades Kindergarten through 12.
The 2026-27 Online Registration packet has two important new questions:
-
Pre-Kindergarten Experience (grades 1-6): About the student's Pre-Kindergarten background.
-
Early Release Wednesdays: About childcare plans for students in grades 00-06 during Early Release Wednesdays.
The immunization process has been simplified:
- Parents will only be asked to upload the immunization record or to check a box stating that a hard copy will be provided during the in-person registration appointment.
We encourage newly enrolling families to visit the FCPS Online Registration site for more information.
Questions? Contact WFES Registrar, Soudad Albermani, at salbermani@fcps.edu.
All students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap),Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.

FCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will provide school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students with no out-of-pocket costs. Multiple events will take place at designated FCPS locations. Additional dates will be available throughout the school year.
Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary. View immunization resources on the FCPS website.
Due to the high levels of illness currently being reported, the little things make a difference. Cover your mouth when you cough, wash your hands regularly, get immunized.
Visits to emergency departments and urgent care centers for flu-like illness have increased, especially among children, and multiple flu outbreaks have occurred in our community and school settings.
Consider these tips from the Fairfax County Health Department to help reduce the spread of flu and other germs.
When Should Your Child Stay Home?
Help your student succeed in school by encouraging them to miss as few days as possible. However, do make sure your student stays home if they are sick. Visit the FCPS website for helpful insights regarding absences and how to work with your child and our school to minimize impacts on learning.
If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to let us know so we can provide assistance, if needed.
Our school will participate in the FCPS Student Experience Survey. This survey will gather important feedback from students about their school experiences to help FCPS make meaningful improvements.
All students in grades 3-6, except those who have opted out, will receive a link to the survey in their FCPS email on February 23. We will administer the survey during the school day between Monday, February 23, and Friday, March 6. Any student may take the survey at home if they are unable to take the survey during the school day. You will receive a communication with details on how to preview the survey and opt your child out if you choose.
We believe it's important to hear from our students about what we're doing well and where we can improve. This work also aligns with the equity commitments in FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan, which include a focus on amplifying student voice and experiences as we work toward meeting plan goals.

Are you creative and want to contribute to the Green Team? Help create our new WFES Eco-Code! Create a design, a drawing, a graphic or a poem that represents what our Green Team mission is at WFES. Students and staff will vote for their favorite entry and the winner will receive a prize from the Green Team. Entries are due to Ms. Muratore on January 30, 2026. We will vote the first week of February and announce our first ever Eco-Code winner!
Mission statement: Encouraging environmental stewardship through hands-on environmental action in our school and community with activities such as reducing waste, conserving energy, planting and maintaining wildlife habitats, and tending to edible gardens.
