Atoms Winter Weekly Recap
Boys Basketball played two district rivals in their first week back from the holiday break. First up was a short trip to Sevens Corner to take on the Justice Wolves. The Atoms were a little shorthanded for the game with a couple injuries but the squad played hard despite finding themselves in an early deficit. Down 10 early was cut to three at halftime. Unfortunately, that was as close it would get as the Wolves made a couple of runs to put the Atoms away in the second half. Friday night was another bus ride but this time up two exits to Falls Church High School. The game was an early back and forth contest before cold shooting from the field and free throw line doomed the Atoms. The closest the game got was 5 in the fourth quarter before the final buzzer sounded with a 58-49 Jaguars win. The varsity Atoms travel to Madison Monday before their next district game at Hayfield Wednesday.
Girls Basketball welcomed the Justice Wolves in their first of two games for the week on Monday evening. The Atoms gave the Wolves a scare early as they led through most of the first quarter and kept it close through halftime. However, the Wolves got hot and ran away from the Atoms to get the district win. The Atoms completed the week with a trip to Falls Church to take on the Jaguars. The game early was all Jaguars as they led 22-4 at one point in the first half. Despite the deficit, the Atoms never gave up with the Atoms battled their way to a 9 point deficit halfway through the fourth quarter before ultimately falling to the Jaguars 49-38. The Atoms take on Hayfield on Wednesday.
Gymnastics traveled to Edison for their first meet back from break. The Atoms continue to get better with every meet and it was evident as a couple Atoms placed in several events. Led by Kate Hanlen and Miah Henderson for the placements, the Atoms look poised to have several gymnasts who look to qualify for the region meet in February. Next up they return to Lake Braddock on Wednesday.
Indoor Track got their legs stretched out and back to the track at TJ Middle School Friday evening. The Atoms used the first meet back to get their holiday legs worked out with several Atoms athletes showing some great progress since prior to the break.
Swim & Dive dove back into the pool Friday evening at Audrey Moore vs Falls Church. Before the Atoms jumped into the pool, they celebrated their Class of 2026 members! After the celebration, it was all business as the Atoms looked to continue their undefeated season. The spectators were treated to an incredible meet as it came down the wire with both teams sharing victories in multiple events. The girls fell just short 158-153 while the boys got the win 165-150. Next up the Atoms travel to GW Rec Center to take on the Majors of Mt. Vernon.
Wrestling got back on the mat in their first match after the break when they held a tri-match vs Edison and Falls Church at Annandale. The night didn't go as planned as district power Edison rolled and the Jaguars pulled away from the Atoms to get district wins. However, the Atoms had several wrestlers with some impressive performances. The Atoms are young but continue to grow with each match and are back in action today at multiple locations.

Atoms Boosters Concession Stand Help
Attention Parents! Volunteers are needed to sell concessions at games throughout the year. We welcome any and all parents to volunteer but when parents of a particular sport work a game, a portion of concessions sales directly benefit that team. If you are not able to help directly at home games, there are many ways you can get involved with the Atoms Athletics Boosters by attending our monthly meetings or being a team liaison. Thank you for your support for Atom’s Athletics!
For questions about concession stand sign ups, contact Lissette Puna.
