Principal’s Message to Families

M

Dear Ravensworth Families,

Happy New Year and a warm welcome back to school! We hope you and your children enjoyed a restful winter break filled with time to relax, recharge, and connect with loved ones.

As we returned to school this week, we were excited to have our students settle back into routines, reconnect with friends and staff while continuing the important learning and growth. Thank you to our PTA, parents, and students for taking the time to come to our first PTA Meeting of 2026! The presentation by Ms. Callison-Aub, MSW/CBIS, from Brain Injury Services was relevant and informative.  This community resource provides many supports and services for all ages.  It was wonderful meeting so many parents and families at our PTA New Principal Meet and Greet. It was a joy to meet so many parents, engage with our community members, and discuss how we can better support every child every day.  Thank you for your time and for your commitment to excellence at Ravensworth ES.

This week our staff jumped back into classrooms with renewed energy and focus. We’re so glad to have our staff and students back and thrilled with the great start to 2026!

Warmly,

Shannon Mueck

Ravensworth Principal

📣 Follow Our Budget Process

Encourage your neighbors, friends, and community members to follow the budget process and look for opportunities to share your ideas about funding public education. Several key decision dates and engagement opportunities are coming up in the next few weeks:

  • The Fairfax County delegation to the General Assembly will hold a public hearing regarding the upcoming 2026 session on Saturday, January 10, at 9 a.m. in the Board Auditorium at the Fairfax County Government Center. Fairfax County residents can sign up in advance to speak at the hearing online or contact the Department of Clerk Services at 703-324-3151, TTY 711, by Thursday, January 8, at noon.
  • Thursday, January 22, Dr. Reid will present the proposed budget to the School Board.

Visit our budget webpage for more information.

Online Registration for SY26-27 Opens Jan. 6

Online Registration (OLR) for the 2026–2027 school year opens on January 6, 2026. Both new and returning (re-enrolling) families can use OLR to register students in grades Kindergarten (00) through 12.

The 2026-27 Online Registration packet has two important new questions:

  • Pre-Kindergarten Experience (grades 1-6): About the student's Pre-Kindergarten background.
  • Early Release Wednesdays: About childcare plans for students in grades 00-06 during Early Release Wednesdays.

The immunization process has been simplified:

  • Parents will be asked to upload the immunization record or to check a box stating that a hard copy will be provided during the in-person registration appointment.

New families are encouraged to visit the FCPS Online Registration site for more information. Families may still use the electronic bundle or paper registration forms if preferred.

Family Spotlight Board

If your child has had a great personal/family moment lately, send Ms. Heiman (amheiman@fcps.edu) a photo and it will be displayed on the Family Spotlight bulletin board in the main hallway! Examples: family celebrated a holiday, cultural traditions, child rode their bike without training wheels, great soccer game, got a new pet, and more!
