Roadrunner Roundup
Dear Roadrunner Families,
Welcome back! Our students jumped right into learning this week, and it was wonderful to see their energy as we returned to the classroom. This week, classes focused on reviewing our school-wide expectations, known as The Little Run Way: being Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn. To ensure these values are consistent throughout the building, classes have been visiting several locations across the school to practice what it looks like to follow "The Little Run Way" in every setting.
We would like to extend a warm THANK YOU to our PTA Hospitality Chair, Mrs. McGowan, and all the families who donated to welcome our staff back with a special Warm Welcome Breakfast. Starting the day with such lovely treats was a wonderful way to kick off our first week of the new year!
We are also thrilled to begin 2026 with some exciting news regarding one of our staff members. Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Nadia Ruffner, our Student Information Assistant, who has been named the Outstanding Operational Employee for the Woodson Pyramid! This recognition is well-deserved and highlights the exceptional impact she has on our students, staff, and the entire school community through her many contributions.
Finally, as we navigate these winter months, please ensure students are dressed warmly for outdoor recess. As a reminder, students will go outside unless there are wind chill warnings/advisories or other dangerous conditions.
We look forward to a fantastic and productive second half of the school year!
Sincerely,
Christie Yarn, Principal Alison Butler, Assistant Principal

🧣 Getting Ready for Outdoor Recess
This is a reminder that students spend 30 minutes outdoors during recess each day. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and/or other cold-weather clothing, gloves, and a hat, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. See the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather.
Throughout the winter, FCPS and the Little Run administration monitor the weather for very low temperatures, wind chill advisories, and weather warnings which may prevent children from being outside and call for us to shorten the time outside for recess.
If you need assistance supplying your child with cold-weather clothing our Family Liaison, Maria Ruiz (miruiz@fcps.edu) is happy to support you.
FCPS Family Math Week
Come together as a community for students in K-6 for 5 nights the week of January 12, 2026, with delightful math games and stories - all on your own time and from the comfort of your own home. All content is free and in English and Spanish. Click here to start exploring!
Through rich story-based mathematics experiences, math week offers families an opportunity to experience math, literacy, history, and geography in a positive way. The games and stories feature several countries including Lesotho, Madagascar, Ghana, and China.
To access the games, families should click here and then click on the day of the week and find their child's grade and language.
Families can play for as little as 15 minutes or replay over and over lasting more than an hour on any given night.
Any and ALL math experiences outside of a normal week count. Our goal is for FCPS to experience 3,000,000 minutes of math outside of the school day. Join us!
