The Dunne Dispatch (School Boundaries, Part 13) - January 6, 2026
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
We have reached the final stage of the Comprehensive School Boundary Review. The Superintendent has published a white paper and slides in which she recommends limited changes to school boundaries. Click here to access the white paper and slides.
I encourage you to share your thoughts on the Superintendent’s recommendations. You may wish to comment on the recommended changes, changes that were considered during the course of the boundary process, or changes that should be considered. In addition, you may wish to comment on the boundary process and how it was managed.
You have at least three options for sharing your thoughts:
-
School Boundaries Public Hearing: You may wish to speak at the School Board’s School Boundaries Public Hearing on Saturday, January 10, which begins at 10:00 AM. You can speak in person or virtually. Click here to register. Registration closes on Wednesday, January 7 at 4:30 PM. You will receive a confirmation email on the morning of Thursday, January 8 with additional information. (If there is an abundance of speakers, some may be scheduled to speak during a supplemental hearing on the evening of Tuesday, January 13.) Translation services are available upon request.
-
Virtual Town Hall: I have scheduled a Virtual Town Hall on Wednesday, January 15 at 7:00 PM to discuss the Superintendent’s recommended changes to school boundaries in the Mount Vernon District. I will focus on recommended changes in the Edison, Hayfield, Lewis, Mount Vernon, South County, and West Potomac pyramids. Click here to register.
-
Emails: You are welcome to send me an email to MountVernon@fcps.edu with any comments on the recommended changes, changes considered during the boundary process, changes that should be considered, and the boundary process and how it was managed.
I will consider your comments as I decide how to vote on the Superintendent’s recommended changes. The School Board is scheduled to vote on the recommended changes during the regularly scheduled meeting on January 22, 2026.
Very respectfully,
Mateo Dunne, Mount Vernon District Representative
